You're right of course that I should have said a majority of those who voted. I am how that might impact the point I was making. If people can't be bothered to vote I would be concerned about their commitment to making an intelligent decision in an election. As to the importance of consensus, I think we are becoming more polarized and less willing to be open to new or opposing ideas. While dissent has always been an important part of America, I believe channelling it appropriately is essential. If people are wrong just because their beliefs are different, we deserve the poor government and policy we create. I think both liberal and conservative values have something important to offer. I can't speak for others, but I want to hear intelligent rational criticizism. If there is a better plan for saving social security I would, truly, love to hear it. Republicans won this last election by arguing for the merits of their ideas. I think Democrats could learn from that.
May I suggest you take a course in government? Regardless of which party dominates Congress, it takes both parties to pass legislation if one party does not have at least 61 members in the Senate and about 321 in the House.
true You are correct, The proof was in the debates between Bush and Kerry, it was apparent Bush is not capable of on the spot quick thinking that is not in a staged environment. This is why his staff never allowed anyone with opposing views to attend his town hall meetings or other such events. Bush is a mere puppet. Abner
Re: true You must not have watched the 2000 GOP debates. Bush bested all his rivals and most agree Bush bested Gore in all three of their debates. You must not have watched the final two debates where Bush bested Kerry by most accounts. No pro-Bush post can do more to antagonize and irritate the anti-Bushites than one fact------- BUSH IS PRESIDENT FOR FOUR MORE YEARS!
Re: Re: true Jimmy: I have to admire your loyalty to Bush. If you wish to believe Bush bested Kerry, go right ahead. The man even admits he cannot speak English properly. You can have your puppet for four more years, it only gives him that much more time to sully his legacy even more. Take care Jimmy
Re: Re: Re: true You seem stuck in political rhetoric. A majority of voting Americans chose Bush AFTER seeing him in action for 4 years. My guess is they will be just as pleased after 8. Democrates need to clearly define what they would do differently if the hope to win the top office.
Re: Re: Re: Re: true I would not say Bush was voted in by the majority of Americans, however, I will not waste my time discussing this, that subject has been had in this forum over and over again. Like I said before, my prediction is Bush will have four more years to sully his legacy as the man who speaks with a forked tongue. Respectfully, Abner
