Hi! :) I was looking into Global U. to continue my education after I get my B.th. at SATS. I was looking into accredited schools that would accept a SA degree from a SAQA accredited school. I contacted Global U. and asked them. Below is their response.

    "Dear Kevin,

We do transfer of credit from the Southern African Theological Seminary. Is
that the same as you are calling South African Theological Seminary. If so,
we give presently up to 80 hours of credit for courses in which you make a
"C" or better. After you have enrolled with us, you may send an official
transcript from that school and we will evaluate your courses and you will
know what courses will fit into your Program of Study. You must complete
32 hours of study with Global University to receive a degree in any program.
Then too, at least 15 of those 32 hours must be studied in your major with
Global University. That will help you also."

Question: Are they the same or are they two different schools?

I couldn't find anything on Southern African Theological Seminary doing a Google search. You could send Global the website and physical address of SATS asking them for confirmation.

No trace of the first. Ask them to check the address or contact person at the "other" school. SATS is in Rivonia now, and was somewhere else around JHB (Rosebank?) before that.

    The following are all different:
    • Southern Africa School of Theology
      Southern Africa Bible College
      South African Theological Seminary
Southern Africa Theological College for Independent Churches
"Southern African Theological Seminary" looks most like "South African Theological Seminary" of course. But best to make sure!

(Personally, I am quite confident that "Southern African Theological Seminary" and "South African Theological Seminary" are one and the same.)

Thank you for your help:) I too think they're one in the same, and will confirm it with them. This is good news indeed if it checks out. I started with three years of unaccredited college plus a year internship. Now SATS will accept my credits for around $1.20 each, then I can continue at Global which is DETC/Nationally accredited. Who knows where I'll end up? Maybe I'll even eventually get my doctorate at a RA college :D

    Kevin,

Sounds like you have a great plan with your SATS BTh path. Why not either get you MTh from SATS (they have both a research model and mixed model) at a fraction of the cost. You could also apply for admission to other RA/ATS/TRACS Masters programs or assuming you do your Mth at SATS other RA doctoral programs.

I guess I am asking why a Global University Masters? They are a credible school and accredited but by DETC. DETC accredits many types of schools from vocational to Masters. I would stick to a school accredited by an accreditor who accredits theological schools or RA (personal opinion). The other thing is that probably for what you would pay for a Global U Masters degree you could earn a distance learning Masters from Liberty University (RA/TRACS). They use VHS tapes for lectures and cost around under 400 per class. A Liberty U Masters would likely have far more utility than a DETC accredited Masters.

    Good luck.

Hi North! I'm not necessesarily set on Global, but was elated to see that the SA degree holds up here in the US. However I've yet to confirm that (see prior message concerning southern or south). I've considered the Masters at SATS, however, I am ultimately interested in getting my degree in Christian Education.

Global has a Christian Ed program bachelors-masters(maybe even doctorate). I either want to teach Bible/Theology or History(world or bible). If I have a Bth and a Masters in Christian Ed then I should be able to compete for a position successfuly. Sats is great because they will accept my credits from the unaccredited college plus their program is real good. If I then go to an accredited US college to get my degree in Christian Ed then Noone will raise an issue with my degree being "foreign."

I haven't yet checked out a lot of other schools, but whoever I pick I need them to accept my credits from SATS. Or, should I say, the credits that will apply for the degree I'm going to persue. Since my unaccredited college was all residence, I should be able to deal with the "did I have residence" issue, to which I can reply yes, three years and a year internship as a full-time minister.

I'm always open to suggestions as far as to my next move. I can ask Liberty, for example, but only time will tell. The million dollar question is will a RA school accept my credits from SATS. I am inclined to think that most NA schools will say yes, but I figure on a bit of a struggle with RA schools. Also, I thought that for grad studies Liberty required some residence? At this point, residence is not an option. I would consider Liberty if there is no residence. If you or anyone knows of a RA school that will accept SATS credits, or think they will, please tell me :)

I used the degree finder and found a few schools that are no residency. They are Regis U, Lakehead U. I Does anyone have anything to say about these schools? Also, do I have to be certified/licensed by the State that I teach in? If I get my license/certification in PA can I teach in Ohio? If not then wouldn't it be prudent to find a DL school here in OH?
