I graduated in December from Arizona State (BS Sociology) and while I think I took about 3 classes on-campus when I lived in AZ in 2011, the rest of my degree was all completed online. I didn't go to my grad ceremony even though I was a first-gen college graduate & was pretty darn proud of myself for completing my degree (had a lot of personal challeges while going there). I live in Washington state now. Anyway, point is ... it's all a matter of personal preference. It wasn't that big of a deal to me. I probably would not have even gone if I had been in AZ; partly because ASU is such a huge school and while I am happy with my education and think the online profs are great for the most part, I literally don't know anyone there. It would not have been that much fun for me. But then again I didn't even go to my HS prom or graduation. I love school, college, learning, etc but commencement ceremonies aren't really my cup of tea. I'd probably feel different if I a) was more photogenic (only half kidding) and b) went to a smaller-sized school and/or had stronger relationships w/ either classmates or professors.
