Gee...just shoot me. King Hussein's call sign was JY1 (like anyone cares). My father was/is not a dixiecrat. I was thinking about "blue dog democrats" who vote Republican, but used the wrong term and forgot to qualify that he only behaved like a blue dog democrat during Goldwater's run.

    Well, John,

After sening the post I realized I made an error saying he had been reelected four times. Obviously, elected in '58 would mean only 3 reelection bids. I did not know, however, the Liberal Party spurned him in 1966. I believe I am correct that every other time they endorsed him, right? As for Goldwater, I was pulling for Rocky that year and when it looked he wouldn't get the nod I was hoping Romney or Scranton would wrestle the nomination from him. Still, all in all, I would still be for Johnson over AuH20 anyday, anytime anywhere and I was a strong RFK supporter against him in '68. Where are the Bobby's, Nelson's, Romney's, Scranton's, Percy's today? Maybe we will get some graduating from the "degree mills"---------JUST KIDDING, ha!

Jimmy muses, "Where are the Bobby's, Nelson's, Romney's, Scranton's, Percy's today? Maybe we will get some graduating from the "degree mills"---------JUST KIDDING, ha!"

The only serious presidential candidates who used degrees they hadn't exactly earned (as far as I know) were Joe Biden and Pat Robertson. Each blamed "staff error" in preparing their biographical materials. The only national leader with a dreadful degree (as far as I know) was the president of Croatia. La Jolla University, it was. I'd been in touch with a journalist in Croatia who was working on an expose, when Franjo Tudjman upped and died (1999), and the story died too.

    John,

You mentioned Biden and Robertson. What were the specifics? I thought Biden plagerized some speech by Kinnock.

I don't know anything about the Biden thing, but the Pat Robertson business had to with Robertson (or Robertson's publicists) claiming that he had done graduate study at the University of London; turned out he had only attended a short (noncredit, I think) seminar course designed for American tourists.

    Cheers,

I am not where the files are. Memory: when Biden was actively running for president, there was campaign biography literature that listed a degree that he had not actually earned. I think the plagiarism thing was around the same time. He apparently lifted from both Kinnock and Robert Kennedy.

President Clinton received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Queen's University in Belfast, but everyone knows he isn't a queen.
