Ulimately it is your choice. I have thought of the CCU MS but I think I would focus on a certificate from a big name school...like Tulane, Cornell, or FIT.

Best of luck. By the way I tried to PM you and your box is full.

Thanks, Gregg. That was the idea from the very beginning. Well, that and the desire to have an "American" credential.

Well I appreciate all of the valuable input...as per usual you guys presented your arguments well and gave me a lot to consider. So far I have looked far and wide and cannot find a cert under $3000 from "known" school...there is the local community college...but I can't stand those guys.....

Anyhow, I'll keep looking for now but I'm still getting a strong feeling that CCU is the right path.

I would like to prevent being that "has been cop who wants to get into business but only has a BSCJ so we'll stick him in security" guy. We'll see. Funny thing is almost every cop I know with a BSCJ tells me "man, I wish I would have majored in anything else". Well I disagree, I like studying criminal justice and if I can use those credits towards "anything else" than I don't see it as wasted time at all.

    You guys rock.
    Cheers.

I can understand the reasoning in it because you do not need a CJ major to be a cop. In NY it is all civil service. A degree in something else keeps your options open. If you leave the profession, your options are very limited with a CJ degree. Also, you can get a Masters in CJ down the road and you don't need a Bachelor's in CJ to do so. That being said, a Bach in CJ has worked out well for me. If I could just figure out what to do for my Master's...

    JH50...that's exactly right.

As for an MS in CJ...the best value for the money I have seen that is RA is Troy State University Online. Under $12,000.

UofP had a really interesting one...but it got a lot less interesting when the price was somewhere around 23 large.
