I am wrapping a a BS in Biology/Psychology through Excelsior college this summer and wondered about the requirements to do a second BS in General Business. I saw the rules regarding second degrees in the Liberal Arts Catalog, but couldn't seem to find them in Business and Tech catalog. Does anyone know what the rules are regarding second degrees in business via excelsior?

    Thanks!

A degree in business after a Liberal arts degree is generally not a problem. You will need at least 30 new hours that are not applied to the first degree.

And unless your applied professional in the liberal arts degree was heavy in business, you shouldn't have any trouble needing 30 new hours.

Have you considered an MBA as an alternative. A non-business undergrad is fairly common in MBA programs.

Thank you all. 30 hours will be no problem since I haven't taken any business classes, though I have taken statistics and one semester of economics. I do have some experience with accounting though so I should be able to nail the 6 credit CLEP before it is expired on June 30. The reason that I would prefer to do a second degree in business rather than an MBA at this time is that I intend to enter an M.S. in Biomedical Science in the fall as a traditional student, and think I could test through most of the business requirements over the summer while waiting for final degree conferral on my liberal arts degree and for my M.S. program to start. Since managers seems to get paid at least as much as scientists in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, I'd like to improve my business background before entering the workforce, but not necessarily pay out for an MBA prior to having any industry experience.

    Thanks again,

    Elizabeth
