Has anyone figured out yet exactly what weight the South African Qualifications Authority carries? I have visited their web site but am unsure.

For instance, if someone graduated from SATS and SATS alone as opposed to obtaining the UZ degree would that degree carry the same weight. Would it be GAAP?

My friend Louis Luyt, who is sort of the Jesse Ventura of South Africa (an absolute outsider, head of the national rugby organization, who got himself elected to Parliament and seems to be popular and influential) says he has been trying, without success, to figure this out, and is getting very mixed comments from various folks there. He does serve on the education committee, and has a law degree from UNISA.

Thanks John! Your comment has convinced me that the best idea is to register through SATS for a UZ degree due to what seems to be uncertainty about exactly what weight SAQA
    has.

    North,

I agree with your decision. With the UZ degree you have a GAAP credential, fully recognized and respected.
