Ryokan College has gone into bankruptcy due to its loss of students and income because it did not obtain regional accreditation.

It's truly unfortunate that this school did not survive due to its unique teaching format, live interactive online classes, that distinguished it from other distance learning institutions offering doctorates in Psychology.

An end of the era of California approved schools offering professional doctoral degrees.

I'm sorry to see Ryokan go down too, Jan. There are lots of licensed psychologists in California with Ryokan degrees. It definitely had its niche.

An end of an era for California approved schools in general. The whole California approved category doesn't really exist any longer.

I'm really sorry to see it go. It represented a whole style of grassroots education that I really liked, back in the day. Most of the schools on my old favorites list eventually went on to become either RA or NA. I doubt if some of them would have been able to do that if they hadn't been able to get their start in the approved category.
