The word "journals" may not be appropriate in this case, because it implies that there may be more than one. Is this realistic? Does the online university sector host any academic journals beyond UoP's "Journal of Leadership Studies" ?

Incidentally, it appears that all of the feature articles in the current issue of the "Journal of Leadership Studies" were written by authors affiliated with conventional non-profit institutions.

There is also this journal edited by Walden University

    IJAMT - Journal

As online doctoral students bring this issue more often to online universities, you will see Universities opening more journals so they can publish there.

I think that many will be surprised at hard it is to become an adjunct. Where I work (large online for profit) we have many potential faculty who think once they are hired, then they are ready to teach. The process can be lengthy and of course if there is not a course section, then that faculty member will not actually be teaching. Many departments overhire simply to have faculty in case enrollment spikes or there is a sudden demand for a course.

Finally, a direct answer to the actual question asked by this thread! Thank you. Good insight; I have heard similar things.

No problem! I should also add that if a person is considering becoming an adjunct they either have official transcripts on hand, official copies of any licenses required to teach, and almost anything that can shorten the credential process. If these items are not available then ensure you know how to order your transcript and copies of licenses. Bookmark sites from your universities or colleges attended in regards to this information. Lastly no matter how easy or annoying new faculty training courses may be, remember all you have to do is pass the course! If one shows a complete disregard for faculty training or do not pass it, chances are slim they will work for that particular university, since often faculty trainers pass on your progress to your department chairs or deans of the particular school you want to teach for.

I notice your EdD program at NCU. Please keep us informed on the dissertation process. From what Randell has said, it appears to be a high quality program with a very tough, almost ridiculously tough dissertation process. I'm hoping to be done with an EdD at Liberty about a year after you. Maybe we can compare experiences.

I would also add that for those that have non-American degrees, you need to have your transcripts set already with WES and ready to be sent with WES evaluation reports when required.

WES is the preferred foreign evaluation service of many schools.

Besides that is difficult to get them (Not as difficult as full time faculty positions), the other problem is to maintain them. You are normally hired to teach a course that might be not longer in demand in the future, you also have to maintain a certain minimum score to be qualified to teach. Most schools score you based on students evaluations.

Just thought I'd post the faculty listing at our local CC (2-year AA degrees only). I see a few DL/for-profit schools on the list, but even for this school (I'm assuming "instructor" to be the adjuncts), most of the degrees seem to be from B&M traditional schools. I think someone mentioned that if you're interested in becoming an adjunct at a local CC or even online, go to their site and see what current profs have in the way of academic credentials to get an idea of what is required.
