Has anyone else hear learn to speak french as a second language with english as their first? I am only just starting this program and it is difficult please feel free to share you experiences, thoughts and advice.

How are you liking it? I picked up Vietnamese level 1 from the local library and I'm hoping to start practicing soon.
Jim, I learnt reasonable French (English is my first language) when working in West Africa. When I met my Mexican wife I began learning Spanish. As I did not have the advantage of the 'language immersion' I had with French I relied mainly on books and CDs to begin with. I recommend you try the Michel Thomas CDs, link below, as I did. They really are good for getting started. It is not a classic way of learning, he doesn't teach formal grammar per se, but if you want to feel like you are winning straight away then they are great. There is a two-CD trial pack available also I believe. The Hugo 'learn a language in 3 months' books are also good.
