Okay, that definately answers my question.

When I was in graduate school at our local state university, our statistics professor required us to purchase what I thought was a "dumbed down" statistics textbook for "dumbed down" students. In retrospect, I think that what he did was just fine. However, I see that the same question is being asked by other students at other schools. Thus, it is not an uncommon question to ask.

If your graduate program was in statistics, then I'll bet you would have been expected to have foundational knowledge and competency in statistics to begin with, and the professor would have required a graduate level text. However, a number of graduate business and management programs do not require extensive prior statistics coursework as a prerequisite for admission. On the other hand, most graduate business and management programs do require that students have solid undergraduate foundation surrounding management, finance, accounting…etc. theory, concepts and application prior to admission. Therefore, unless a course is intended for bridge or preparatory purposes, you will most certainly use graduate level text books for your studies.
