Hi Tom Thanks for the clarification, but you really have me with the "devout theisist who are comfortable speaking in terms like 'Maybe there is no God'" statement.
I distinguish between "live" and "committed" belief; a "live" belief is a belief that one considers possible, which in my case would be theism or weak atheism. A "committed" belief is the belief one actually holds, which in my case would be theism. When both atheism and theism are "live" beliefs, but one hasn't committed to either of them, then one is an agnostic. Cheers,
