Dave, isn't that the same thing that Lawrie Miller does?

    Hi Skidadl

Not that I've ever seen. Lawrie has written lengthy posts and created a very helpful site that has helped many people. He has put much time and effort in, and never posts with just a link in an effort to spam this site. He does not link to paid referral sites of limited value. After paying to help people for years he eventually did add google ads to pay for the web site. I see no parallel at all.

    Dave,

After reading several of his posts I see your point. I thought that you were simply commenting in the link and blurb about his site in his sig. Lawrie has the same in his sig. so that was my comparision.

    My bad.

    All I can say is....

All I can say to end this spamming label is to look at the list of my previous posts here:

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/forums/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=275992&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

or just go to search and type in 'ybfjax' in the 'by username' block.

I believe that just about all of my reply (or original) posts were completely relevant to the thread topic.

    - I probably have never written as lengthy of a post as Lawrie has, as I've never had a need to.

    - Just in my squadron and base Navy College Office, as well as quite a few other unique visitors that have sent feedback about my website, I would say that I've helped many people as well. In fact, it was Lawrie's http://www.bain4weeks.com website that got me motivated to not only complete my degree, but also build my own website that outlined how it could be done, step-by-step. It emphasizes military discounts and advantages/disadvantages, when appropriate for those that are or were in the service.

    - I think I've already covered the spam issue.

    - I link to many educational websites thoughout my website in a logical fashion, both paid and non-paid referral sites. I actually hope to put up the 'links' page in about a month that will summarize all the different sites that I found helpful (including degreeinfo.com). BTW, the few paid-referral sites that I have are completely relevant to the BS roadmap. They too help cover the cost of maintaining the site. I thought about google ads, and may include them early next year.

I wish those that truly thought that I was generating negative posts would have sent me a private message or an e-mail to the fact first. It would have been more professional than an outright accusation. If I had an issue with any of the members here (or any site), I would try to handle it offline (privately) first.

    Keep posting YB!

I don't see this as spamming at all. YB has created an impressive site. He has an impressive resume as he is living proof of DL. He has done what many people want to do, earn his degree quickly via DL! Give the guy his props. If he helps 1 person to achieve what he has, we're all the better because of it.

Wasn't that why this board was created? John Bear posts too, is he spamming? How about Tom Nixon? Lawrie Miller? IF YB wants to post, he is free to do so, and if people link over to his site, terrific.

Keep posting JB! A lot of us appreciate your input!

    PS
    Rant,
What's going on, you've been quiet for some time. Give us an update! We're rooting for you and Unixman!

    Re: Keep posting YB!

    Hi Ultimale

I don't think discussing YB's resume is really part of the issue. He responded to several threads with ONLY a link to his website. No help or comment of any kind. I have no problem with him or any one else placing a link in their signiture to make money. I do see a problem with blatant spamming which is what this was. I have lokked over his web site and honestly found little useful info. Others less knowledgeable about CLEP and DANTES, may disagree.

    Hi YB

Lets be really clear about one thing, you were clearly spamming whether you intended to or not. You replied to threads with only a link and no help or comment of ANY kind. I am all for EVERYONE posting information and help, but spamming is just ugly on several counts. I hope you continue to post, but I hope it is with useful and helpful information first and foremost. As to whether I should email you or reply to your post, that really is my decision isn't it? Telling soneone how you want them to communicate is little over the board don't you think? In any event, take care and have a great week.

From his posts, I had the impression that ybfjax was a new user, and one of the less knowledgeable members of the group, so I'm surprised to hear that he actually has a web site. I thought he should be concentrating on learning from the regulars, as opposed to trying to instruct others.

    Spamming and YB

    Hey Dave,
I agree with you if that was all YB was doing. I saw a few posts and it seemed like he was trying to add some value. I think his site does have value if for no other reason that he shows others it can be done. This has tremendous value.

I'd agree with TESC student, that I think he is a new poster, and I am sure he will change his posting habits. I know Mark at www.degreeforum.com has a site, and he only posts when he has something constructive to add. I'd be willing to bet that YB will do the same, especially after the spamming issue has been brought to his attention.

    Re: Spamming and YB

    Hi Ultimale

My post was really simple. YB began by making some posts that were some what helpful although not new info in any way. Then he began blatant spamming. I asked him to stop. While I think his site is 90% commercial and 10% helpful, that is his concern. I certainly have no problem with helpful posts that have signatures that link to other sites whether by Lawrie, Mark, or YB. I do object to spamming at DI (I think this is where I came in :)).

    Re: Re: Spamming and YB

The choice is all yours. However, I only recommended an alternative way to handle it. If I came across that I was trying to tell you what to do, I apologize. You have a good week as well.

    Dave,

I always encourage constructive feedback. Although I strongly disagree with your position as to the level of helpfulness of my site, what (in your opinion) do you think could be added (or subtracted) to make the website better?

What exactly do you mean TescStudent?
