I don't trust our legal system, it's a farce. You have to weigh the situation carefully before you open your mouth and possibly insert foot. Minorities and poor in this country have reason to mistrust. For all the honest cops out there, it only takes a handful of bad ones to corrupt a system. Then the trust is lost, especially when they go to great lengths to protect their own. We see numerous times where people have been locked up for crimes that they didn't commit, only to be released after long stints in prison. How many times have we been certain we "KNEW" an individual did something, only to find out later that they didn't. To blindly make a statement that only if your guilty do you have anything to fear is quite frankly misguided. We have also seen on many occasions where many people have confessed to committing the same crime. I would want my rights given to me explicitly. Were talking about your life here. I'll talk to a cop concerning a minor infraction or a misdemeanor but a felony, that's a different story. It depends on what appears to be my level of involvement and how they are questioning me. With the level of corruption we see at the highest levels of gov't, you can almost not trust anyone nowadays. I don't see anything wrong w/the Supreme Courts stance on Miranda.

    kyjo brings up good points.

I would like to share a slightly off-topic story. I saw this on maybe Cops or one of those kind of shows.

There were two patrol officers standing by their patrol car when two fellows walked by.

One officer announces, "We're having a special, you can get your name checked on the computer for free. If you would like?"

They stop and one guy responded, "Okay, that would be great!"

The officer gets the fellow's name that was interested in the offer and goes to the patrol car. The officer returns a minute later. He says, "I checked the computer and there's a warrant for your arrest. Please turn around, you're under arrest."

The guy protests, "I thought you said it was free."

The officer responds with a big friendly grin, "It was free." :D

Adding to your off-topic story: Do the CSI shows have a problem paying their electric bill? Maybe it's just me, but all of these shows portray dim offices and labs. It doesn't seem to dawn on any of the characters on the shows that the lighting may be less than optimal.

    Maybe it's just me. :)

Yeah, I notice that as well! Of course, I can't stand to watch CSI for very long.
