It is only my 3rd post and it is the first forum I participate in but if I felt maybe my first impressions might give some new light to what has been said previously in this thread and others.
I first received a private message from a member (so I will not name him) who felt he had been poorly treated in a discussion related to a Liberian university and asked me to look long and hard before continuying my membership and even adviced me to join and other BBS. I looked long and hard at _all_ related posts, found out that if the answers given had been about administration and marketing tactics nothing subtantial had been said about the academic value of he programs the same person had tried to defend.
One more person with an agenda, I thought, maybe an isolated case

    Welcome aboard, Philippe.

As you read more and more of this board, you will find a wide range of opinion. You will also find that when posters are obviously shills (secret advertisers, in effect) for degree mills they will be exposed for what they are. This is independent of our views on various forms of (legitimate) accreditation, California approval, "foreign" accreditation, etc.

You will also discover a cadre of posters who take perverse delight in defending the very worst schools or in making excuses for tricksters of one sort or another. This cadre is ignorant and belligerent, but if anyone notices this, they act wounded and hurt. They often make grandiose statements about defending the rights of dissent. These statements are nonsense.

Please ignore passive-aggressiveness and occasional threats from that sort of poster. They are a small minority of posters here. Among the grown-up posters you will find an amazing diversity of outlooks combined with a real concern to promote legitimate distance learning and inhibit fraudulent or inferior enterprises. You are most welcome to any advice or opinions you find here, and I hope you will share your insights with us. The more authentic information, the more debating carried out with integrity, the more honorable perspectives, the better.

    Dear Gus,

I continue to be jealous and envious of you. You have a unique, uncanny and surreal ability to post with such respect and courtesy, with warmness and kindness. Your posts are so objective, logical and systematically rationale. I, throughout my years, have had a few people whom I truly and greatly admired because of their quality of gentleness and the "content of their character." I have striven to emulate them. I now place you on this list and thank you for being my new hero.

I must admit that is refreshing to see someone brazenly declaring that he intends to continue to blatantly violate the TOS of this forum. :D

Sure, Jimmy, whatever you say. (See? This is the appropriate smilie to use when sarcasm is employed.)

Why don’t you explain what you meant when you stated that you took down your old discussion board when you discovered St. Regis’ discussion board and declared that the St. Regis board rendered your own forum redundant and unnecessary? Why don’t you explain to us why your new discussion board has two sponsored links that feature degree mills prominently on their Web sites? None of this is distance past; this is now.

Thank you to uncle janko whose message box is full. I will try to reply later.
I am afraid my half message didn't make sense and looked instead out of context. I sent it by accident and had to ask the administrator to post a second version, but obviously it didn't work. Following is the complete version

It is only my 3rd post and it is the first forum I participate in but if I felt maybe my first impressions might give some new light to what has been said previously in this thread and others.
I first received a private message from a member (so I will not name him) who felt he had been poorly treated in a discussion related to a Liberian university and asked me to look long and hard before continuying my membership and even adviced me to join another BBS. I looked long and hard at _all_ related posts, found out that if the answers he had provided had been about administration and marketing tactics nothing subtantial had been said about the academic value of the programs he had tried to defend.
Then I followed the present thread, and saw what amounted to the continuation of what looked like a feud between various members, and trying to understand what it was all about I found out the link mentioned below (you have to go to the "fewer posts" thread, one of the latest dated september 6). Disrespect is never good but there are more insiduous forms of disrespect. There is a possibility the thread was posted by someone assuming the name of James Clifton but if not, I am surprised by the differences in tone and content betwen here and there, before and now and all four shaken and stirred.

Looking at this and at the previous "story", it took me only a few hours to understand why some of the members can feel aggravated by so much B.S.
To go back to my general impressions I am very grateful to many of you who have posted so much valuable information. I will do my best to bring something useful to the debates (as a journalist I am good at research, fast with a keyboard and with many ressources outside of Google! and agree 100 percent with what uncle janko said this BBS is and should be all about). Cheers:cool:

Grammar man leaving words out? It really cracks me up when you correct me or someone else in a thread, and then make mistakes yourself. What hypocrisy!

The occasional mistake or omitted word (usually as a result of erroneous cutting and pasting) in no way can compare to the cruel and unusual punishment the English language is habitually subjected to in your writings.

Once again you prove that your obsession with me and your inability to post anything that is not a personal attack makes you oblivious to making a complete fool of yourself in public.

I do not claim to have mastered the English language, and do not try to use that against the person that I disagree with. As usual you have an excuse for everything. Just more hypocrisy.

But you and I don’t disagree. In order for me to disagree with someone, he or she must first post something of substance. You do not. All you post are personal attacks in the guise of unsubstantiated opinions.

What you call excuses are usually referred to by educated people as reasons, justifications, corroboration, verification, evidence, grounds, confirmation, substantiation, etc.. I am aware, however, that the concept eludes you.

I understand my young daughter’s obsession with Orlando Bloom (although she seems to be switching to Johnny Depp). And I certainly understand my teenage son's obsession with Elizabeth Hurley. I cannot, however, under any circumstances, fathom your boorish and puerile obsession with me. Get help. :D

I think you are the one that needs to get help. Step back, and look. You are constantly puffing yourself up, and bragging about how great I art, while going out of your way to tear others down. So much so that you spend all your time researching post, laws in Denmark, and any other grounds to find something negative to say about someone that merely disagrees with you on a discussion forum. And I need help? :D :D :D

I guess you simply don't realize how stupid you sound. In other posts you have chastised me for not listing my credentials and other personal information. Now you accuse me of puffing myself up and bragging. Which is it? Do you even realize how contradictory your statements are? Do you realize how infantile you sound? Are you capable of providing a single example of this braggadocio I am constantly exhibiting? Of course not.

Whoo boy!!! This one takes the cake. So, now you are attempting to chastise me for researching and sharing with this forum information concerning schools (never mind the fact that it was a degree mill) and degrees? Do you even know what the name of this forum is? Just when I think you couldn’t possibly make a more pathetic statement, you surpass yourself. You continue to astound and amaze.
