I don't really understand the point of this organisation.

If you look at the course brochure of this program, there it says

"Upon completing
this Level 8 Diploma,
learners can progress to
a university partner to
discuss a research proposal
for DBA/MPhil/PhD."

According to this Page Level 8 means Docorate in the UK

If qualifi is an awarding body why cant they award the doctoral degree by themselves?

As far as I know, an Ofqual-regulated body cannot award academic qualifications like a doctoral degree (but they can, however, award a qualification which you can transfer to an academic qualification!).

In some countries professional qualifications have an academic value that can be transferable to a degree, some are accepted as equivalent to a degree.

Level 8 Award is up to 12 credits
Level 8 Certificate is up to 36 Credits
Level 8 Diploma is 36 + credits.

They all have an academic value that UK universities can accept. (almost like ACE credit recommendation in the USA)
Higher National Certificate is level 4 and equated to a first-year - undergraduate education, accepted into the final 2 years of a 3 year Bachelor's degree program.
Higher National Diploma is level 5 it's equated to a Foundation Degree in the UK ( first 2 years of undergrad education) and allows one to attend final year 3 of the bachelor's degree program.
But its also a valuable qualification to enter workforce as Technicians, or Entry level Engineers, etc.

For example C7G Graduate Diploma in Engineering level, 6 is considered a final year of a Bachelor of Engineering degree for purposes of professional recognition and registration as IEng in UK.
UK universities may accept it as an entry into the MEng degree program.
Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering level 7, is considered equivalent to Master of Engineering degree (MEng) and recognized for Chartered - CEng registration.
Same for management qualification that can be recognized for registration as Chartered Manager in the UK.

Some level 7 Diplomas from the UK are evaluated by NACES member evaluation services as equivalent to a Master's degree from US RA University.
Same for a diploma level 6 is evaluated by NACES member evaluation services as equivalent to a Bachelors degree from US RA University.

 

I will try to take a diploma and evaluate them, both in the USA and in my country, Indonesia. If it is evaluated to be equivalent, I can certainly put that on my CV and it such a big deal. UK degree

 

No guarantee, some are being evaluated as graduate certificates.

Good question.
You have to be careful as there are many questionable providers with unrecognized accreditations that provide 12 months top-up to DBA/PhD.
First, try to identify a recognized university that accepts the specific Lev 8 Diploma for a top-up or advanced placement.
I saw a number of questionable universities and schools that will charge you 10K BP for unrecognized top up to DBA.

There are many with Ofqual accreditation, such credit is usually accepted by UK universities for placement.
for example:
With the CMI Level 8 Strategic Direction and Leadership you can choose to study at Award, Certificate, or Diploma Level.
The CMI Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Direction and Leadership is an RQF Level 8 qualification and is regarded in academic terms as being equivalent to Doctorate/PhD but it's not a DBA/Ph.D.
Just like CMI lev7 Diploma disclaimer - As the CMI qualifications are regulated qualifications on the RQF, the level 7 Extended Diploma or the Level 7 Diploma may possibly get you exemptions and or entry onto a Master’s / MBA Degree. Please contact Support Services for further information.

One can get stuck with an extended diploma of 66 credits only to find out 9 or 12 credits can be accepted into an advanced degree program.
Some are happy with the qualification and get an equivalency report for employment but without using it for further education.
