    to err is humean

This fellow is trying to capitalise on his name's meaning--why else explain it in his own website? He clearly thinks it's speeeecial. Worse, he thinks it makes good PR for his enterprises. The fact that you and I don't, tcmak, doesn't stop this personage's weirdness. But then, you and Decimon and I are probably just a bunch of racists.

The question is not the naming of real universities after real people. Nor is the question about why Chinese folks give kids the names they give them. The question (with apologies to our favourite kuei-shen Richard Nixon) is--

    Why is this man smiling?:D

That is the relevance to this forum. He appears to use his name, if that is his name, for the purpose of promoting his school.

That's half true. Traditional Western names have meanings equivalent to Eastern names. Europeans are usually more aware than Americans of the meanings of the names due to the names coming from native languages. It may be true that Westerners place less significance in those names.

Jimmy (James) Clifton is 'Supplanter' Clifton.

    Bruce Tait is 'Thicket' Tait.

    Simon is 'He who hears.'

    Abner is 'Father of light.'
