Can anyone provide some guidance into prep material for this test? I'm not on InstantCert, and it's not feasible for me to get on. I have reviewed DSST's site, but the textbooks listed seem way too cumbersome for me. I have a hard time believing that I have to wade through several 600+ page books for this one exam that seems to have a +/- 70% pass rate.

If anyone knows of some "CliffsNotesesque" study material by which I can learn the high points of this exam, I would be eternally grateful.

    Thanks!

I have not taken this exam, but I evaluated it for my own degree. For what it's worth I'm a business major and scored 77/80 on the related Principles of Management CLEP and 80/80 on the Organizational Behavior DSST.

This exam has a rep for covering topics familiar to anyone with work experience. If that describes you, one textbook would probably be sufficient. DSST recommends more than one for the same reason the makers of electrical appliances apply labels that say "do not place in bathtub". OK, maybe not quite, but HR is a pretty generic subject and one book is as good as another. If you have access to a public library, grabbing a textbook would be good even if you only pick & choose when to look at it -- it's helpful for learning the "sense" of a subject, which helps when narrowing down answer choices when you're not sure. If your library has Barron's, that will work too.

    Other resources:

I vetted only the first "Lesson" but this looks good (registration required):HRM study material - MBA Guys

A search on Amazon for "outline human resources" yielded 100+ results, notably the Cram101 series, including some as low as $2.

Free-Clep-Prep.com has a study guide that promotes InstantCert but has some useful-looking links. The stock photo of a graduate annoys me, but free is free, I guess.

These were juicy (though not for the DSST specifically):

    P/HRM Exam #1 - Review Study Guide
    P/HRM - Exam #2 - Review Study Guide
P/HRM Final Exam - Review Study Guide

It would be great to read your feedback on the test on this thread. Good luck.

Lol, he is rather annoying, isn't he?

I outsourced the header creation for Free-Clep-Prep since I'm horrible at that kind of thing. I received three submissions and that smug look almost made me go with one of the others. I ended up choosing him simply because I plan on sticking silly hats on his head for the holidays.

In answer to the original question - Here's the study guide for this exam:

Don't forget to also check out here:

Human Resource Management DSST User Submissions

You can download Snazzlefrag's study guide from that page and if you scroll down a bit there's a link to some other posts I've found in the free section of InstantCert that covers the exam.

    Hope that helps!

Snazzlefrag's notes are exactly what I was looking for. I plan to use those as a quick reference sheet, of sorts, and will try to find a reference book to bone up on some of the particulars.

MIS, what did you use for prep on the Organizational Behavior DSST? That's another one I am about to start prepping for.

I will update this thread with results, and hopefully will have some valid input about the relevance of my study material.
