Im thinking about registering Monday in some individual courses I need.
I was wondering if someone could tell me how the courses run?
Do you do the tests online somewhere loged in or are they mailed in, what?
Also i have heard that there is proctored exams? If true i have heard also that they are open book is this for all courses?
More or less how will a course play out for me?
    thanks

    Hi nj,

In the late 90's I earned an Associates in Business Management through PFC and was later able to apply all of those credits to a degree from Excelsior College.

As far a your questions, when I went there, each course consisted of:

    1) four to eight lesson modules with about 80 pages of reading for each,
    2) self tests and sometimes short one paragraph essays* at the end of
    each module, and
    3) a proctored final exam, which had between 30 and 50 multiple choice
or true false questions, and short essays.

*Some courses such as, English, Literature, and Communications
required a bit more writing, like a few pages per lesson.

That's how the courses were laid out back then, but today the coursework is likely very different. And, as a final note, I believe there to be a Laboratory Residency Requirement for the Engineering and Veterinarian Assistant degrees.

    Good luck to you!

    Hi Brian,
thanks for input are the final exams open book or memory?
I heard that they were open book. If this is the case what is the sense of the proctor?

None of the proctored final exams I have taken were multiple choice. They were 5-10 questions each, and they all required essay-type answers.

Yes, the final proctored exams are open-book. Penn Foster College requires a proctor to ensure students adhere to time limits and to make sure the student is the one taking the exam and not someone else.

Some finals have multiple choice / fill the blanks sections. Some do not. The ones that have those options have harder and longer essay questions.
