I'm 58, have 129 college credits dating from 1961-1990. Where do I start?? Have heard that credits aren't acceptable older than 5 years. Then I read that Clep scores are kept for 20 years. I'd hate to think that I might have to start from scratch. Any info would help...thanks so much!
Ellen, I would do some closer checking on this. Certain credits, such as related to areas that have changed, like computers and information systems are limited by schools. This makes sense if you think about it ... TESC does note that for Applied Science, Technology, and certain Business courses that there may be limits as to credits over 10 years in age. Subjects such as English or history would seem to be OK. Check the rules of each school to learn more. More important would be if those past credits are from Regionally Accredited schools ... Thomas Edison does limit the number of undergraduate in one area to 70 credits, or 45 to 90 hours from certain foreign credits. There is also a limit of 80 hours as to "junior/community/county college" toward the BA also. But no total limit ... Check the website for more details. www.tesc.edu It's not just the number of hours ... it is the areas and level of those courses, if they are RA approved, to consider what your plans should be. Also TESC uses semester hours, yours may be that or may include quarter hours ... so 129 hours may = ??? My only experience is with TESC. I suggest you also consider Charter Oak, and others that might also offer options for you. Don't go to a "less than wonderful" school just to try and use you past accomplishments ... that's a real waste of everything. Billy
With Charter Oak State College, I transfered in 87 semester credits from 1970-1974 and Have done a special assessment for 55 semester credits from 1975-78. They have been very helpful you might check them out as well. Dan Snelson
