There is a reason for the timelines on doctorates...currency of both the course work and the dissertation. There comes a point that the course work is no longer valid and thus cannot support the degree title and the dissertation. Most of our fields change dramatically in 7-10 years (the timelines of most programs).

I lost all of my committee members, with the exception of the chair. One minute they were working for the university -- and the next minute they weren't! It didn't happen all at once, but I would get an email telling me that Dr. So&So no longer worked for the university and that I had to find another committee member.

Sorry. You've probably been screwed by idiot advisors / administrators. If they had any intention of conferring your degree, you would have been graduated long ago. To continue to collect tuition from you with such malevolent intent is fraud. Go to the accreditor. If they don't listen, threaten the accreditor with a class action law suit for negligence in monitoring the school (and then organize the law suit); they have been delegated consumer protection responsibilities in most states, such as in California.

I am in the same boat

First my tale of woe (the short and kind one)
I have ADD and it took me longer to get chapters one and two into draft form...however I ended up getting a new chair that was as stiff as a board. With a LD I need someone that I could discuss my learning etc with she would have nothing to do with it or me. So I am also seeking a way to complete my degree now that I am ABD and chapters written. I have two MSed degrees so I know I can do it I am just slower and need a little more help. Any ideas where I can go and hopefully knock it out without having to do a ton more coursework. I don't mind doing some but not two more years of it.

Thanks for any ideas or help!
    what I am looking for:
I am looking for a Doctorate in Education curriculum and development and I am using John Dewey methods learning principals and how they can enable teachers to use methods of teaching that can help students with LD (such as myself) suceed in the school system.

First question - has your university received notification from competent medical authority about your learning disability and the recommended reasonable accommodations from the specialist?

Yes they did get notification, the problem there was that I did not get documented until I was with the chair for two years I was told by my past prof that retired they did not need accommodations for me they were comfortable with helping me get the extra time etc needed to complete. With the chair that I was given she did not do anything extra when I was given the accommodation of submitting the rewrites etc in small sections 1-5 pages the first time I came in to use the accommodation they let me go. So here I sit with the only recourse to do is a grievance procedure that is being written and sent out this week. But to be re-instated is probably very remote at this time.
