I am looking to get the opinions and views on a particular situation I am about to experience.
Currently, I teach HS science, and just have completed my Masters, I have been considering applying for adjuct positions for next Autumn so that I can gain some good experience in teaching at the community college level and eventually try to transition my career into post-secondary teaching full-time.
This past month as my department and administration is reviewing credentials, course offerings and curriculum, that noticed that at our districts Technical Center they will be offering some new sciences courses in the area of Meteorology/Climatology (in connection with Embry-Riddle). Well, the school board and lead administrator noticed that I am the "only" one in the entire district that has a MS and strong background in this field...and they want me to teach these courses (2) next year in with some of my regular assignment classes.

The interesting part is, these courses are considered DE (Duel Enrollment), which is basically Introductory college level courses...just offered at the high school level but in a tech center.

My question is, by teaching these DE courses, will this be considered expereince in teaching college level courses even though they are not at a college? How is something like this viewed on a CV if and when I do apply for positions at a cc? Is this a technicality or I am looking way too much into this?

My administration is sugar coating this by indicating that I will be gaining experience by teaching at the college level? But how true is this?

    Opinions anyone?

    Thanks.

If the course are introductory college-level course, then teaching these courses should be considered experience teaching college-level courses.

You are probably overanalyzing the situation.

    Yup ...

So long as a student can be awarded college credit, you are teaching a college level course, Professor!
