    UK Opinion article:
Running an electric car is twice as expensive as a petrol one.
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/running-electric-car-twice-expensive-124654026.html

"Electric cars are up to twice as expensive as petrol or diesel vehicles to run, new figures have suggested.

Running an electric vehicle (EV) can cost more than 24p per mile, while a diesel vehicle is 12.5p.

It costs as much as 80p per kilowatt hour to charge an EV using a rapid or ultra-rapid device on the roadside, according to data from the app ZapMap.

A typical electric car will travel 3.3 miles for every kWh of electricity used, meaning rapid and ultra-rapid chargers currently cost the equivalent of 24.1p per mile, calculations by The Times suggest.

Slower chargers cost 16.4p per mile.

This is about double the average diesel car, which will do 43 miles per gallon, resulting in a cost of 12.5p per mile at current prices. A typical petrol car costs 14.5p per mile, according to the analysis.

A return journey from London to Penzance would cost £148 in an electric car using rapid chargers, The Times said, compared with £77 in a diesel car and £89 using petrol.

It added that at-home charging is much cheaper, at less than a third of the price of the average rapid charger."

In other words, this is anti-EV FUD from the Torygraph. Why even bother post it?

Well lets see. Hmm, okay, I will set up a gas service at my house and charge one million dollars per gallon of gas. So based on that gas powered cars are orders of magnitude more expensive than EV.

P.S. If you'd like to buy some of my gas then message me for my address.

I'm not an expert on EV, but home charging station are very slow.
Its 2024 and the technology got better.

    In 2021:
Sixty-four hours. That's how long a completely depleted Chevy Bolt EV takes to fully charge if you plug the electric vehicle into the same outlet you use to charge your cellphone.

    In May 2024:
Charging can be accomplished when the vehicle is otherwise parked, and home charging is substantially cheaper (roughly one-third the cost) of DC fast-charging. On average, an EV charger will have an up-front cost of between $400 and $500.
Level 2 charging, especially for cars sitting parked and plugged in for several hours. "You don't need fast, expensive DC chargers. Level 2 charger is perfectly fine." For example, a super-fast 30-minute charging session to get to 80 percent full battery can cost $10 or more. Level 2 home charging for a four-hour full charge is estimated at around $8 in electricity.

An obvious shortcoming with home charging is that it isn't available for everyone. So more charging options need to be available for people who don't have a dedicated, private spot to recharge.

Why is this an opinion piece? If there was clear accounting evidence that EV would cost more than gas then why not publish a report?

I'm reminded of the saying that a person is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts.
