What experience do people here have with open source online campus and other learning systems, such as Moodle, Sakai, LAMS, Burrokeet, etc.? Any favorites? Anyone actually using one in a production environment? -=Steve=-
Moodle I am a Mac user. I have been using MAMP to develop PHP scripts locally. Earlier today, I downloaded Moodle, popped it into MAMP, and within an hour I had the first vestiges of an Economics course. I have taught more than two dozen undergraduate courses in Economics online, using eCollege, and I am impressed with Moodle. At free vs $75-per-student-per-course, you can't beat the price! If students take ten courses per year, eCollege's license fee works out to be $750 per student per year. If one's student population is more than 100, it becomes cost-effective to hire a PHP developer, whose sole reason for existing is to maintain Moodle fulltime. And, if I can get Moodle to work, then that developer will have plenty of time left over to fetch coffee and pick up the dry cleaning. Ce
