    INVIGILATED

I wrote the Biblical texts in their ancient contexts exam this morning. I think I did very well on the Old Testament portion and I hope I did OK on the New Testament portion. The results should be released in about a month.

I enjoyed meeting a few fellow UNISA students.

    Re: INVIGILATED

I was rereading your first post in this thread and was thinking, man what a cool bunch of classes! Outside of Theology, history is my other passion, esp. ancient history. God bless you in your studies, Charles!

    PASSED

    Trek towards Pretoria continues.

UNISA examination results were released on the internet this morning. After hours of trying to log on to the results page, good news. I passed my first UNISA exam.

    1 down - 29 to go.

    Next module:

Archaeological discoveries from the biblical world (BBA102-V)

The first exam was more challenging than I had expected, so I have elected to stick with one module at a time until I finish the MBA.

    New examination centres

This information may be of use to anyone interested in UNISA. Normally I would prefer Washington, however the Norfolk venue will be a better location for my next exam due to my schedule, so the email received today was a pleasant surprise.

    "re: EXAMINATION CENTRE AT VIRGINIA

The University has been able to secure additional examination centres in the USA and Canada.

Since, according to your address, you are residing near a newly established venue, your examination centre has been changed accordingly.

    The address is as follows:
    Old Dominion University
    Academic Skills - Testing Center
    1500 W 48th Street
    Norfolk, VA 23529 USA

If you are not satisfied with this alteration, you are welcome to change your examination centre back to the centre of your choice before 5 September 2003, if possible.

    Yours faithfully

    for REGISTRAR (ACADEMIC)"

Yesterday I wrote the exam for Archaeological discoveries from the biblical world. The exam consisted of twenty-five multiple-choice questions and five essay questions.

I think I did well, but I would have liked more time to answer the essay questions. Two hours can seem to disappear quickly when you are writing essay answers.

    Admitted to the exams

Yahoo! I have been admitted to the May exams.

The writing assignments for this semester's modules were far more challenging than I had anticipated. I was thrilled to learn today that I earned very good marks and that I have been admitted to take the exams.

    Exams completed

Greek myths, literature and society (CCL101-R) - I think I did OK.

From Dan to Beersheba: An archaeological tour through ancient Israel (BBA301-4) - I'm afraid that I will probably have to repeat this one.

    Charles,

I also did studies through UNISA; I can remember that the registration process was quite tedious then and quite a schlep, but the examination processes were smooth and the tutors were extremely helpful. One specific tutor comes to mind, Prof. Shahia, who was a fundi on Transport Economics. He was available at any time for queries, as were the others.

Good luck to you and all the best.

    Len.

I took the UNISA exam at the South African Embassy in Hong Kong some 15 years ago. I think that its exam. is still conducting through the SA Embassy. You can check the locations of the examination centres from the UNISA or contact SA Embassy to confirm it.

    Just as I thought.

Greek myths, literature and society (CCL101-R) - PASSED. :)

From Dan to Beersheba: An archaeological tour through ancient Israel (BBA301-4) - I will be writing this exam again in the Fall. :(

    Next up:

In addition to repeating the exam for BBA301-4,

Introduction to the Ancient Near Eastern Cultures (ATC101-3)

Roman myths, literature and society (CCL102-S)

    Charles,

I read your response on the thread about my wife that directed me here. So how is it going?

Also, is there any sort of interactive component to your courses, or is it all self-study from the materials that they provide?

    Thanks,

    -=Steve=-

    Steve,

I'm actually in a holding pattern right now. I am only familiar with my program, a few B.A. modules in Biblical Studies / Archaeology and Classical Studies.

My modules consisted of either one or two writing assignments and an examination. Passing the writing assignment(s) is generally required to gain admission to the exam. Additional exam points are sometimes, but not always, awarded for the writing assignments. In most cases the final grade consisted of the exam score alone. Don't let anyone fool you, a two hour exam is much more challanging than any part of the registration process.

My professors, in almost every case, were the authors of the textbooks. Which I really liked. However, that meant that the books had to be purchased from South Africa. The books themselves are very reasonable but the shipping cost is painful.

My professors responded to my e-mail questions. One or two lectures are conducted in South Africa. I'm sad to say I did not attend any. Unisa's Students Online (SOL) is setup so modules can have discussion boards, but we did not use them to any great extent in any of my modules.
