Cybersecurity is growing and I feel there are few people who possess this degree compared to a general MBA which there are possibly hundreds of thousands out there. Also, it makes sense for an "online" cybersecurity masters as you will be working with computers most of the time from a remote location.

Cyber, like data science, is hot right now but may not stay that way. For someone already interested in the field though, can't be the name/cost ratio on that one.

I think honestly a growing field and the way to the future. Everything is going virtual and electronic. The most simple thing like a vehicle will be all electronic and will need cybersecurity in the future to protect personal data stored within the cars memory.

It is still $16,900 cost; it is pricey compared to Georgia Tech. In the industry, we value a CISSP over a Master in Cybersecurity.

While the meaning of "pricey" varies from one person to another, compared to many no name online programs out there, NYU's discounted program is far from pricey. It's not even double the cost of Georgia Tech. An MBA for 50k is what I'd call pricey.

Well, because it is a Master in Cybersecurity, in the industry most people do not have one. However, if NYU offers a Master in Computer Science for $16,900.00; yeah, that is a steal. When my team looking for a Cybersecurity analyst role; we are targeting experiences and high-end certs (i.e: CISSP, CISM), Bachelor in Computer Science, or Information Technology. Most of the time is Master's in Computer Science preferable.

  14. I tend to agree. A lot of institutions are trying to "glom on" to the cybersecurity hiring situation. Simply assuming that a program is a "Masters in Cybersecurity" and is worth a darn is a bit of a stretch. How many of the faculty have vendor or vender-neutral credentials?

Also on the certification front, they provide no transfer credit at all. Not for industry certifications or even for other MS courses. Might be garden-variety academic snobbery, but it's not a good look.

  16. Again, I tend to agree. The vast majority of "Cybersecurity" offerings are being done "on the cheap" with the minimum qualifications required by the Higher Learning Commission. So you tend to find a LOT of faculty and adjunct faculty with minimum qualifications. Like going to a law school where the law instructors never took and passed the Bar exam. This is a good example of people running up student debt for degrees that will not do them a lot of good. :(
