In September of 2020 I somehow got on the mailing list for the MS in Finance (MSF) program at the University of Notre Dame. It was a night school program, one year long, in Chicago, including three on-campus immersions so you could "experience Notre Dame."

I just got an email that they "recently decided to discontinue the MSF-Chicago program going forward [because of a] shift in demand by working professionals for professional master’s degrees — in part, due to COVID — toward programs that offer greater flexibility, such as online or hybrid programs."

I'll be honest, this whole time I thought it was an online program. I wasn't paying too close attention because I get so many of these program-related emails. It's definitely harder to justify face-to-face programs with the advent of online options. I do think the quality of the learning is different, and maybe worse(?) but the flexibility can't be beaten.

Before long, I figure most major universities will offer online degree programs. A lot of prestigious universities are already offering online programs geared towards the working professionals. It only makes sense that some of these smaller programs that may only have 30 students dissolve for programs that are more robust and can generate more tuition dollars to help fund full-time on-campus programs such as their MBA.
