I never understood how I could go to community college in California for FREE. Nothing is free in life! From what I understand, it's no longer completely free.

They have to, with certain limitations of course if they want to grow, but they need to do it in a responsible way thought.

I was under the impression that Northcentral University is growing its enrollments by approximately 47% since 2005 according to the press release / announcement to the students. The risk of growing much faster is a reduction in quality and the ensuing perceived negative public opinion of NCU such as UoP has been facing in light of its overly aggressive marketing.

Growth is good if it is done responsibly, same goes with marketing. Many universities are advertising heavily more than ever. The realm of the negative public opinion comes from other sources and or other situations.

NCU has reportedly been a sole proprietorship which, for the HLC, may signal some governance issues. The move, or one like it, may have been necessary to secure continued and long-term HLC approval. On another note people seem to think that in these types of deals that the company being acquired is not doing well.....when in fact that is usually not the case....from rb's website this is what they are looking for: "developed and profitable companies with significant revenue, a large market and a proven business concept. Ideal investment candidates typically have at least $20 million in revenue and 4 million of EBITDA" In my experience these types of funds are not really interested in "turn arounds" or buying failing companies....rather they are looking for good companies that they can help to make even better by investing.

From the listings on their site it appears that Rockbridge also tends to purchase businesses that have a proven revenue stream, so their approach might just be to make a good thing better.

I've seen the concerns here about Rockbridge having such a stake in the mortgage industry. It appears that problems within the mortgage industry, among others, were the catalyst behind many of the recent events on Wall Street. So, the really silver lining is this: If Rockbridge can secure financing to buy anything, that in my view is a really favorable sign of their own financial stability.

This isn't hyperbole. It's really difficult for individuals and business to secure financing, and financing for anything considered highly speculative is nearly impossible to obtain. Thus, there must be many level-headed business analysts who believe in the NCU business and academic model and who feel great about its growth potential.

I believe that NCU's growth potential and overall stability as an academic and business organization are enhanced significantly by this acquisition instead of depending on the good or bad fortune of a sole proprietor owner.
