    Interesting

A quick search of Chronicle Careers March 23, 2006 pulled the following ACBSP schools looking to fill positions:

    http://chronicle.com/jobs/id.php?id=0000451080-01&pg=s&cc=

    or

    NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

    Dean
    School of Business

    or

Dean of the School of Business

    or

Not one is a community college nor a technical school. They appear to value ACBSP.

I think it would be safe to assume that the above schools would give preference to candidates graduating from an ACBSP school over those that have RA only.

Otherwise, why would they have gone through the ACBSP accredidation process?

    Just my opinion

None of them ask for graduates of ACBSP accredited schools. The assumption than ACBSP accreditation might be helpful is good but again not a requirement. The sample selected is only a small representation of the schools accredited by ACBSP, if you look at the accredited schools by the ACBSP, you will find that the vast majority is composed by community colleges and technical schools.

Yes, ACBSP accreditation is better than no accreditation. However, it is of little value for those looking to become academics.

    Really?

An examination of Region 3 of the ACBSP (I live in Florida) found the following:

39 Accredited technical\community college associate degree schools

    36 accredited bacc/grad accredited schools

    1 school listed as both

    Hardly a "vast majority"

    Bacc/grad accredited schools:

    Alabama State University
    Albany State University
    Athens State University
    Bauder College
    Claflin University
    Cumberland University
    Delta State University
    Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
    Fisk University
    Florida Memorial University
    Freed-Hardeman University
    Gardner-Webb University
    High Point University
    Johnson C. Smith University
    Kentucky State University
    LaGrange College
    Lambuth University
    Lenoir-Rhyne College
    Lipscomb University
    Methodist College
    Mississippi College
    Mississippi University for Women
    Mississippi Valley State University
    Morris College
North Georgia College and State University
    Oakwood College
    Paine College
    Queens University of Charlotte
    Southern Polytechnic State University
    Spring Hill College
    The University of West Alabama
    Troy University Dothan
    Troy University Montgomery
    Troy University Sorrell
    University of Mobile
    University of North Alabama
    Voorhees College
    Wingate University

If ACBSP is of so little value why did the above pursue it?

The majority of AACSB schools seeking full-time faculty at the Chronicle do not list AACSB accredited as required either. But it sure helps!

Anyway, many schools seem to think it is important and the doctoral students at NCU appear pleased.
