A friend forwarded the following to me:

From today’s SCN Bulletin: High Holidays 2023 Threat Assessment
    “Current Threat Environment
SCN and our federal law enforcement partners assess that the North American Jewish community is facing the most complex and dynamic threat landscape in history. Bad actors targeting the Jewish community include Violent Extremists (VEs), Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), and individuals inspired by violent extremism who lack allegiance to a specific ideology or organization. VEs remain a serious threat to public and institutional security, and the Duty Desk has observed a continual increase in Domestic Violent Extremist (DVE) activity through incident reporting and online monitoring. Incident reporting data have continued to reflect an increase in antisemitic activity in the U.S. and globally: by August 2023, the Duty Desk had already recorded more incidents than the entire 2021 period. At this rate of reporting, total 2023 incidents are set to exceed the total number of incidents recorded in 2022. This extensive targeting of the Jewish community is further highlighted by most recent FBI hate crime statistics, according to which over half of all religion-based hate crimes in 2021 (51.4%) targeted the Jewish community. The Jewish High Holidays, with their increased attendance at synagogues and other Jewish facilities, are likely to attract violent extremists or individuals seeking to spread disorder and attract media attention to their activities.”

Even President Biden acknowledged the issue. It has found its way into mainstream politics (eg Corbyn and the Labor Party in the UK). People often try and hide their anti semitism by using Freudian Defense Mechanism ("I'm not anti semitic I'm just...") or trying to gaslight people ("Whenever anyone says x people will say you're anti semitic because you can't criticize Israel...")

We have employed armed security guards at major synagogue events for years. Tree of Life was just one incident.

A good friend's dad oversees security at their family's synagogue in Miami and he agrees; they're more concerned than they ever have been before.
