If you are out of school for a while, some (both state flagship schools in my state) will expunge grades with a five year gap in attending and after something like 20 credits earned after returning. As far as everything else, I must claim ignorance.

I got some info on the CLEP exams and will speak with UMass early next week about what they will take. I unfortunately don't think I'll be able to transfer as many credits as I'd like... they have a slightly different curriculum than most other IS programs.

a small update to my quest... here is some info emailed to me.

    ---------------------------------
Any student who has earned a high school diploma or a GED is welcome to enroll in a program with us.

To apply to our program, please send us a completed degree application, available on our website at http://continuinged.uml.edu under "Miscellaneous Forms." Please have your previous college/university send us an official copy of your transcripts. We will then send you a worksheet delineating those courses that have received transfer credit. We will accept a maximum of 30 transfer credits towards an associate degree, a maximum of 90 transfer credits towards a bachelor degree, 60 of which may come from a two-year institution. We are willing to accept CLEP credits, a maximum of 30, from subject exams, as long as the course has not been previously successfully completed.

Once enrolled in a program with us, we do have a procedure titled Credit by Exam, in which a student may receive credit for work/life experience. The student provides documentation of the knowledge covered in a course or courses. If approved by the program coordinator, the student is asked to pay the tuition for one credit to earn the 3 course credits.

Tuition for our online courses is currently $235.00 per credit or $705.00 per 3-credit course.

Hello, It sounds like you are making great progress with the search. Please let me know how the application process goes and what kind of time frame is involved.. Once you have the process in place it will be less chaotic. When you are enrolled I suggest you document all class choices and decisions via fax. I know this sounds paranoid but it is surprising how things are forgotten, missplaced, or thrown out. If answers you get from one advisor don't match the printed material pursue it with someone else. Make sure you have the most up to date catalog of the school you commit to. I've found that some advisors are really not familiar with their own schools' policy or options. This can save you time and money. Have a peaceful night. Keep cool if at all possible. Hille ***Sorry for the bossy nature of this post.
