Mandatory participation in online courserooms required by some distance learning programs is very questionable in terms of what students actually derive from the experience. Online courses were developed to appear as if they are simulating a face-to-face classroom experience. Unfortunately there are intrinsic problems with these online classroom interactions such as the disparate academic performance level of students resulting is some students being a burden on their more advanced or brighter peers. This can be a real letdown for an academically capable student who is plunged into a manditory online classroom and graded on how well they respond and assist their fellow students who may be of much less capability. In addition, the inordinate time required to research and compose quality posts and responses on these online courserooms brings into question the actual learning value of this experience. For some it may, for others it may not. Therefore, it is easy to see the attractiveness and benefit of attending a school such as NCU where one is responsible solely for the academic work they complete independently.

Hi All - Thanks again for the positive feedback. I will enroll in Ph.D. Psych. my background is in research, mostly program evaluation and will not be going for licensure. FYI - To the poster asking about Saybrook. I know several people that have become licensed post-Saybrook. It's a great school for a certain type of person; someone who is open to humanistic philosophy and is big time self started (because of the tuition structure) would do great there. Best, S.
