Let me repeat, there are NO PROCTORED EXAMS for individual courses at Penn Foster.

Most of my RA undergrad DL work did not require proctored tests.

Exactly, well said. If find it hilarious that people like Vincey dwell so much on the RA/NA issue. The real issue is the perception of DL learning period! I am honestly glad I have transcripts spanning over a 10 year period from a world renowned B&M College to bolster my DL degrees, and my experience. I am not bashing DL, but DL has some years to go before the perception becomes more accepted in the mainstream.

I have taken UCLA extension courses as well and can say that it would have been just as easy for someone else to turn in my assignments as it would at BYU or any NA school. By the way, I was not impressed with the courses one bit.

I agree. The general public perception of DL is still somewhat negative. However, it is up to us - distant learners - to stand our ground and contribute our values, ethics, knowledge, and expertise to society. We should not apologize about the knowledge acquired via DL. Instead, we should break the perception barriers that exist today.

Most of us distant learners are disciplined, driven, goal-oriented, good at prioritizing, great communicators, and excellent time managers. These qualities are sought after by employers and useful assets for entrepreneurs.

I am proud to be a distant learner. In fact, all my postsecondary education has been acquired this way, and I plan to continue to climb the knowledge ladder via DL as I appreciate the benefits of life-long learning.

I invite all of you to put aside your preconceptions and be proud of your DL studies and degrees. It concerns me when I read about people being preoccupied about their diplomas having the words “online” or “DL” printed on them. For the contrary, tell people how much work and discipline it took to obtain your degree . . .

Make no mistake, DL is here to stay. Its growth has been phenomenal. Lets all be part of this new paradigm and be proud of it.

My experience at Penn Foster College does not resemble your description.
The proctored exams follo the EXACT same procedure as the classes I took with LSU.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! I have now taken 4 individual classes through Penn Foster outside of any degree program. All 4 have been proctored. All 4 tests were sent directly to a proctor. ID was checked prior to taking all 4. Proctor mailed the exam back to Penn Foster for grading. Perhaps you are suggesting that non-college credit, non-ACE evaluated courses at Penn Foster are not proctored?
