Some time ago, a post was submitted regarding Excelsior College’s acceptance of DETC undergrad credits. The post suggested that Excelsior was in the process of reviewing their current policy of requiring a regionally accredited undergrad degree and perhaps widening their admission requirements by also accepting a nationally accredited degree. However, I just applied to Excelsior’s MA program in Liberal Studies and was rejected because my undergrad degree is nationally accredited. I discussed this with several individuals at Excelsior but the final result was firm. They would accept regionally accredited degrees only. I even have several credits from Northcentral u (regionally accredited) to transfer but to no avail. Wondering if anyone else with a nationally accredited degree had recent interest in Excelsior and their experience. Is there any option or should I just move on? Thanks.
Just a question. Unless there is a specific desire to a MLA with Excelsior, why not try an equivalent degree with Athabasca University in Canada? It requires a recognised undergraduate degree for admission and a NA degree may fit the bill. http://www.athabascau.ca/mais/admission.html Just a thought .
I received a phone call from Anne Connor (Excelsior). She stated essentially the same thing referenced in her letter...that they were looking into drafting clear guidelines on this issue. I've heard nothing since. I was told by Excelsior that NA courses that had been evaluated by ACE would be accepted. Pug
CHSHeaf You may want to check the following link under CHEA for Higher Education Alliance, of which ColSouth is also a member. http://www.chea.org/heta/default.asp I noticed that even Regis University is part of this alliance as well. See if this could be of use to you in terms of various RA schools accepted DETC credit. Good luck
I just received this response from Excelsior regrading my question about NA credit transfers. Our policy states that students holding a bachelor's degree from a nationally or professionally accredited institution/program may be admitted into our MBA and MA Liberal Studies programs as provisional students. Provisional status would be removed once the student has completed nine semester hours of Excelsior College graduate course credit with grades of at least "B" in the courses. I hope that this information is helpful. Sincerely, Anne F. Connor Director of Advisement and Evaluation School of Business and Technology Excelsior College GOOD NEWS!!!
