Thanks. I didn't see that link from the Aspen home page, but it might have been too late in the evening... As long as the program is rigorous, it seems to offer an excellent educational value to a student who doesn't plan to teach in a regionally accredited college; there comes the limitation. I still wonder what sort of student services a for-profit school can offer at that tuition price.

    Hi Dave,

My situation and objectives dictated to me that Aspen University would be the very best solution to suit my purposes.

As a husband and father of six children, with over 23 years experience in Information Technology. If the school was regionally accredited of nationally accredited was not my major concern. My major concern was that the school be CHEA and DOE recognized, and that it would provide me the most convenient and economically affordable solution for earning my Masters.

So after having several discussions with faculty, former alumni and currently students and getting the boss, (my wife) approval. I decided to apply.

Some interesting observations that I found was that Aspen/ISIM University had one of the oldest online distance Masters programs in the U.S. Furthermore, at $4200.00 (prepaid), Aspen University had the most inexpensive Masters programs available.

Finally, I think that if you are just starting your career, beginning a new career, wishing to fulfill some lifetime goal, aspiring for the CEO or CIO position of some Fortune 500 company and cost is no concern, then the $110k (in-state) / $115k (out-state) you would spend for the prestige of an MBA from the U of Michigan is best.
    :D

Excellent points, very true. It sounds like you made the best choice for YOU. I will be starting the MBA program at Aspen some time in January 2007.

    Good luck and welcome aboard!

Same here. I am a single mother with 2 kids with full time job. I could transfer 6 credits from my previous Masters. I got to earn only 30 credits. Earning MBA with $4200/- tution fee is really dream come true. I don't know how educational system works in USA, since I went to college at India 15 years back. I got no clue how I am going to juggle with my hectic job, kids and MBA. Is there any advise in study habits/ online sites which helps me in this MBA course.

I also took advise from one of the senior member posted about ordering books from other places, other than Aspen Bookstore. I ordered from Amazon. But still it is taking 10 days for me. Any advise???

    Thanks for your advise.

I selected Independent Mode. Interactive mode might put me under pressure & stress, if I am not in the same Phase with other students. I will start with Independent mode and will see how I do.

10 hour week is not bad. I may not study 2 hours a day, but definitely put some time during the weekend.

Other than, interactive mode, is there any site where I can discuss subject with current students. That will be real helpful for me.

the idea of interactive is great, but sometimes you get killed at work or with family duties so the extra two weeks for independant might be needed.

Also to do correspondence there are a few things you'll need:
    1) a fortress of solitude, since ice palace isn't always within your commute, find a room/coffee shop/library/etc where you can be left alone and won't be bothered by the phone/family/etc.
    2) Don't be afraid to take a week off, but remember you get 10 weeks for 8 modules....
    3) find others in a similar situation for advice/etc. This board is great but Aspen could use a message board for the IND students!

    Good luck

Interactive Mode also requires students respond to the postings of other students for the Discussion Questions section of each module assignment. Independent Mode only requires you provide your answers to those same questions, plus whatever questions and/or tasks are assigned for the module.

Try to complete a module per week to keep the momentum. Use the "bonus" two weeks to cover external interruptions such as deadlines at work or family crisis.

I got enrolled in one course, starting from coming Monday. What are the expectations of answering questions. Page/ Paragraph..?

Definition question has to be a paragraph/ page?
Ex. What is "business process reengineering?

Mini- Cases and Discussion question - Page/ 2 pages..?

    Please advise.

All of the above questions would be excellent questions to ask your instructor once you get started. Only they could answer some of the above.

In my experience the length of the response is largely dependent upon how well the student conveys the essential concepts asked by the question. Some students can write a paragraph, others need a full page, to answer the question.

As for mini-cases and discussion, the mini-cases usually require lengthier responses than discussion questions. Remember the discussion questions are meant to show you undersrtand the concepts related to the material. In the interactive mode of delivery, the discussion questions will be responded to by other students and instructor and you have the opportunity to post multiple times. Whereas in the independent mode of delivery the responses should be no more than 1/2 a page for most of the discussion questions. The mini-cases typically involve integration of theory and the mini-case narrative and therefore the student can expect to write 1 or 2 pages.

However, as previously mentioned ig you are in doubt your instructor will answer (via email, possibly telephone) any question you that might arise.
