A friend of mine notified me today that last night there were no classes at Masters. Today on their web site (http://www.mastersinstitute.com/) this was posted: Attention: Unforeseen operational circumstances have necessitated that the Masters Institute temporarily cease operations as of midnight, March 5, 2001. Business and teaching staff will be given specific dates and times to retrieve their personal items from each of the facilities. Your supervisor will notify you as to the date and time that applies to you. All follow up with all constituents will be directed to Debbie Kanner and Sandy Minella at the following: Telephone: 415-263-5963 Fax: 925-552-1292 Address: P.O. Box 810 Danville, CA 94526 E-mail: [email protected] Students, faculty and staff should check the website at learn.mastersinstitute.edu for regular updates as they become available. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience in this difficult time.
I'll state up front that I am not familiar with the Master's Institute at all, but find it interesting that this is the second sudden closing of a profit-making school in the past few months. (The other was the Computer Learning Centers, which had multiple campuses or centers around the country and held a DoEd-approved accreditation.) I do not wish anyone ill, but y'all wonder why I'm against proprietary (profit-making) schools? Hell, even my own M.A. alma mater has announced that they want to sell one of their schools (Norwich University has announced that they are seeking to sell the Vermont College campus and its programs), and even regionally accredited schools do go out of business occasionally, but at least they do not fly by night.
There has finally been some media coverage on the closing of the Masters Institute. The URL for today's article in the San Jose Mercury is: http://www0.mercurycenter.com/local/center/masters0308.htm
