    On this Sunday morning, the hospital (858-457-4123) said their policy is to give no information whatever by telephone, even whether a person is a patient there, other than to family members (who, I suspect, may be given a password or special access number).

    This is also probably due to a version of the new HIPPA (patient privacy) laws that went into effect in NYS over a year ago. I think each state has a version of this law.
