This an old article and an interesting situation. Obviously, some embarrassment for the woman involved and an issue for TEA (don't know what the outcome was as she was appealing).

An alternative teacher certification program accepted her credential and trained her. She then passed the very long and tough state certification exam (that people routinely fail). Later it came to light that her bachelors and actually Masters through PhD were from LBU.

The question is, if she took the approved alternative certification program and passed the state exam and was doing okay at her job, is the revocation fair?

Interesting. I am currently in the process of enrolling for an alternative teacher certification program in TX.

I understand the exam is tough. The pay is decent with regular increases.

The program requires passing the content exams before being admitted. I will take my time and prepare since I am in no rush. I don't plan to relocate to TX until the 2021-22 school year. By then, I'll have three years of high school teaching experience in business and criminal justice. I will either pursue the business and finance option and add criminal justice by exam or try to do both right now. I have an upcoming meeting with my advisor, so I'll hear what's the best option. I know with my three years of teaching experience and a Ph.D. by Fall 2021, I will earn a higher salary. I'd love to get a position in a juvenile justice facility where the pay is even better. Furthermore, I am passionate about working with these at-promise kids.

I would not think the revocation fair. However, I suspect that whatever happens, they will find a method to screen the education of future applicants. LBU has a lot of graduates who serve churches with their degrees... teaching in a texas public school is another story.

To make it more convoluted, LBU momentary had state recognition for their business program. It was only allowed for one cohort though.

As for rescinding her credentials, that really depends on the legal verbiage. Certainly would not consider LBU degrees as recognizable outside of religious settings.
