    Dr Wagner,
How does the number of students entering/graduation rate equal a program designed to meet someones needs? I assume I am missing the obvious but I do not see the connection. If the graduation rate is 25% or 95%, the program is still the same - right?

Vacation Scenario A: If one was to sell a thousand tickets to fly to Hawaii on a 737 with no fuel, how many vacationers will arrive in Hawaii? (Also, There are a few complicating factors. The airport location and flight time are unknown. The are no stairs to the plane. The cabin door is not open. )

Vacation Scenario B: If one was to sell 189 tickets to fly to Hawaii on a 737-900 (which has 189 seats) that was fueled with a known departure time and location, how many vacationers will arrive in Hawaii? (Moreover, there are stairs to the plane and the cabin door is open. Oh, and the flight crew showed up for Scenario B.)

    Source: http://www.simviation.com/rinfo737.htm

In sum, both are called vacations to Hawaii, but Vacation B seems to be designed more like a vacation trip to Hawaii. Presuming that one thinks arriving in Hawaii is an essential component of a vacation to Hawaii...

I knew I was missing the obvious. I was thinking "designed to meet needs" as in having the courses you were looking for such as X number of accounting credits or offer a DPA vs. PhD or something like that. I was not thinking of the number of graduates equals the quality of the structure to properly navigate the process. By the way, I feel like I have been on Flight A but with fuel and not much more then that!

Would the DEL or the DSL qualify as a terminal business degree?

But the vacationers wanted "a chance" to experience the vacation of their dreams in Hawaii, didn't they? Isn't a less than 1 in 5 probability of boarding a hypothetical, overbooked airplane "a chance" of going to Hawaii? Is that false advertising? Is that a lie? They had "a chance". Right? HeHeHeHeHeHe...! ;)

So you are saying there is only about a 20% chance of getting through a program like NCU's PhD in Accounting?

This / (specifically the other threads that mentioned dissertations) was and is my main concern. If I go towards a degree in "Accounting" I think my choices are:

Baker College DBA - (There is an option for self-designed specialty, so would try to do that in Accounting / my dissertation in Accounting)

Anderson Univ DBA - (Accounting specific specialization, but 4 weeks per year on campus)

or one of the For Profits: NCU, Walden, Argosy

Of those, NCU's 35k vs "60-80k" is pretty attractive since I honestly don't see much distinction between the RA "for profits"?

I'm talking about vacations. Is a vacation program that doesn't take 90% of the paid customers on vacation really a vacation program? Is a prison that allows 80% or 90% of the prisoners to escape really a prison? Is a transportation agency that deliberately doesn't take passengers to their destination 80% of the time to be considered a transportation agency. Names are often indicative of function or otherwise relevant attributes.

I am not sure. Regents advertises the DSL as an applied, multidisciplinary terminal degree designed to provide instant solutions for today's organizational challenges.

The one thing I struggle with is how the degree is classified by US DOE? DBA, EDD, and DM's are classified as research degrees, would this apply to DEL and DSL degrees too??

I may just choose to do a DBA or EDD in Org leadership since those degree designations are more recognized?

My Agency director (who has a Ph.D) is encouraging me to continue on for my doctorate. He stated that in his experience the degree designation really doesn't matter as much as the school and to choose the learning style that will fit best for me since it will be a long haul. It was an interesting conversation; seemed to validate what Dr. Douglas has been posting.

I will "self-bump" my own thread. I applied to the NC A&T program but was not able to get in, lots of competition and most of the students appear to already work for NC system somewhere. I suspect the same is true for the NC State program, etc.

I have seen the Ed.D programs in "Leadership" crop up and I may have to pursue those at some point, but it is not really my desire.

I am hoping another Accounting program has cropped up that someone knows about? (Hampton Univ for example, but 4 weeks on campus in summer from what I can tell in research. Same as Anderson)

I do not mind SOME travel, but prefer to stay in the USA.

My options as near as I can tell, hoping someone will add to this:

    NOVA - DBA Accounting, $57000, [1 weekend per month x 3 months x 3 semesters = 9 visits to campus per year!?]
Baker College - DBA (self designed), $44,100, [2 residencies at Professional Seminars]
Hampton Univ - PhD Biz/Acctg - $39000 [4 weeks Summer session, on campus!?]
    Anderson Univ - DBA/Accounting - $28000 [4 weeks on campus in summer]

    [For Profits]
    Walden - 60-80k
    Argosy - 50k
    Capella - 65-80k
    NCU - 40k+?
    TUI - 33k ?

    [Intl - NO residencies!?]
RDI/Univ Wales - $30k (DBA, not sure if accounting or by Dissertation subject)
SMC - $20-30k - DBA (not sure if accounting specific)
