I've always had the idea that a startup school could just offer a number of rigorous certification programs to start, get them ACE evaluated, build up their credibility through consistent informative and diplomatic employer contact while working on accreditation for the future degree-granting programs, and in the back working on degree programs for the future. Then once accredited, the school could go full-force and start offering degrees.

    What makes them less-than-wonderful?

  3. If this guy is going through the trouble of getting a proxy just to shill degreeinfo.com then this would be an all time low for shillers on this forum.

    Because:

    1. The mods have no idea who you are and what your abilities are.
    2. I can, with tools at my disposal take an IP, source it back to the ISP, and with information I have access to via consulting assignments track the IP back to a user account at particular ISPs. Once that's known you have PII.

So it's not about giving you the IP, it's about giving it to you and knowing your intention without knowing your abilities and how far you'd take it.

Good thing is, you know it's not personal.

    My Criteria:
    - Accreditation
    - Cost of Attendance
    - Transferability to other schools
    - Industry/Employer acceptance

Im guessing everyone missed this part. I am just trying to contribute to this forum. Not every post has been about my school. I have said other things about other topics. Look at my post history. But I will say that Im tired of being hounded by the same few people because they want to go on a shill hunt. Im not doing anything wrong! I didnt realize there was some kind of netiquette or rules that had to be followed on a forum like this. Im tired of being harassed. Im an almost 34 year old wife and mom. I dont have the time, patience, or desire to put up with this nonsense. I came on here to ask opinions about 2 colleges I was thinking about for grad school, to let people know about my school, and to offer help in any way I can about a variety of topics. Thats all.

    1. Don't take it personally. I was the flavor of the moment once too.
    2. I don't know what being a mom or 34 has to do with anything.
    3. The Geo thing isn't conclusive per other posts in the thread.
    4. I'm not being listened to either such that I can tell, so don't feel badly.

My age and the fact that Im a mom lets people know that Im not some kid looking to start trouble (as was said in a different thread bashing me).

Point taken. I had noticed the statement being made multiple times, but I hadn't noted the reason why.
If I were to make a similar statement I'd say I'm 38 year old dad with a 10 year old son, and that gives me a reason to be a pain in the rear end. :)

LOL. I have a 14 year old son with autism who I home school and a 5 year old daughter who is getting ready to start kindergarten this fall. My husband works from home and is in school online to become an online teacher and I do everything else. And by everything else, I mean EVERYTHING else. LOL

No, there are a couple of ways to avoid this problem.

    ****

Typically, a legitimate new college or university will begin working with a regional accreditation agency before it even opens. When it opens, it will not be fully accredited, but it will be an official "Candidate" for accreditation.

The regional accreditors won't grant "Candidate" status unless they are pretty sure that a school is legitimate and will ultimately succeed. So in practice, a school that is a "Candidate" for regional accreditation is treated the same as a school with full accreditation. For example, you can't get Federal financial aid to attend an unaccredited school, but you do qualify if you attend a newly-opened RA Candidate school.

Typically, a school will be awarded full accreditation a few years later, at the same time that the first class graduates. So everybody gets an accredited degree.

    ***

Alternatively, a new school can begin operation as a branch campus of an existing school. It will operate under the older school's accreditation for a few years, while pursuing separate accreditation of its own. Once it earns its own accreditation, it can cut its ties to the older school and operate independently.

Their cost per credit is way too high ($435 per credit at just the AS level!) but that seems to be typical of ACICS schools for some reason. On top of that, Schiller seems to be very defensive with telling you about their cost per credit to the point of giving you a run-around (I know because I asked, and they responded like I was asking them when was the first time they'd had sex).

I'd avoid this school like the plague to be honest, and that has to do with the cost and the way they responded to my cost inquiry... but it has nothing to do with their accreditation as it is legitimate, and employer acceptance is not a real issue with NA schools despite the prevailing concern (which is more misconception than anything).

As for transferability, well, if a person didn't look into this and prepare prior to enrolling, then that's their own fault. There are many RA schools taking NA credits now, so all a student had to do was research only a bit to find them, but that's assuming the student is even planning to go to an RA school. After all, not everyone wants to and their reasons are legitimately personal to their needs/wants and I respect that without criticism.

There were 2 main people. SurfDoctor just took care of one. The other hasnt said anything in a bit. We'll see if that holds. ANYWAY, no more negativity. This board is actually a wealth of knowledge and excellent points of reference. Other than a few people bothering me, I have actually enjoyed reading the posts on here. Im learning about colleges, programs, etc that I had never heard of before.
