I'm looking to specialize in programming at a regionally accredited school. I am also looking for a school that will allow me to transfer my A.S. degree and not require any further general education courses. I am currently checking out 2 BSIT programs: Jones International University (http://jonesinternational.edu) with a specialization in Platform Independent Enterprise Programming, and Capella University (http://www.capella.edu) with a concentration in Web Application Development.

Can anyone give any recommendation for, criticism of, or heresay about either school's BSIT program? Any other school you think I should check out?

Thanks (or as we say here in the South, PREE SHEE YAY DIT.)

Dizzy - I too have been looking into going back to school via distance, either for an MBA or getting some sort of IT degree. Capella is one of the top school's on my list. Jones is there as well, but further down the list right now.

One step I would recommend for Capella is speaking to their "Ambassadors" from the program. It looks like they have a few that are even in the program that you're looking into (http://www.capellauniversity.edu/aspscripts/schools/meetlearners/infotech.asp). The ambassadors I've talked to for both the IT program and MBA program have been very informative, and are one of the reasons that I'm strongly considering Capella (when I finally decide I'm ready to head back to school, that is).

    Keeping up with the Joneses

    Thanks, Toonces.

Does anyone know anything about Jones International University? One doubt I have is that some people mistake them for Bob Jones University, the right-wing religious school that was in the news for its racist teachings. Even someone on the staff of Dr. Bear made this mistake when I inquired about JIU. He replied "We have a policy of not covering religious schools here at Degree.net."

I think JIU should change its name.

Have you checked into University of Phoenix? Expensive but I am enjoying my experience with them so far.

I looked into UoP, but only very briefly. The fact that UoP seems to always stir a heated debate over the quality of the program scared me away... If and when I do go back, I'd just rather not take the chance that I might not be getting my money's worth, as some people have indicated might be the case.

    Just my opinion, though.

Hello, This is second hand information. My daughter is enrolled in Jones currently and doing well in their MBA program. They are quite expensive but offer one of the only options for graduate credit through portfolio. Have a great night. Hille

Jones international has an excellent industry oriented program for the bachelor's of IT. You can also get credit for your A.S degree, the program has options for ORACLE and CISCO certifications. You can get hands-on experience by using their e-labs online.

    I hope this helps,
