People have been put in jail after following this horrible advice! Many have been fired and publicly humiliated after following this horrible advice. Russ is one of the very few that gives this horrible advice on this board so I don't really believe that he picked up this horrible advice here. It seems far more likely that this horrble advice was learned from a diploma mill.

The reason that an apparently legally bestowed diploma can get you in trouble is that in some places, diploma mills are not illegal to operate. When someone buys a diploma mill that is operating legally and uses it someplace where diploma mills are illegal then they are vulnerable to sad repercusions. There are even plenty of examples where a diploma mill was thought to be operating legally and then have it proven in a court of law that they were operating in a fraudulent manner.

As usual russ does not know what he's talking about and is giving bad advice.

Pardon the Typo,I admit I am less than perfect. Now if we could just get Russ to admit he was a troll and find a bridge to crawl under. Or does that Barely make sense to you too Russ.

Message to yowies and splootballs has changed

As was pointed out by Azad in another post somewhere, it appears that James Monroe has been ejected from Liberia. And as noted already, the accreditation page refers to Seborga and India. The contact page only gives a Seborga address.

We have a bit if dyslexia (surely there is an anagram buried in there somewhere) in the acronym (is that AACRAO-nym??) for the site: the banner says "James Monroe International University" while the graphic with the tree shows "JMUI," reversing the "U" and the "I."

Ah, who cares? We really want to see more grammatical mistakes. But what's more fun is the page referring to yowies and splootballs: the teeny disclaimer
links to http://www.jamesmonroeuniversity.ac/ODA_contreras.html and shows a fair amount of visible snarly text about ODA and Alan Contreras.

It's the invisible text that is most entertaining: select the white-on-white block of text at the bottom of the page in order to render it visible...
    Weird stuff, eh?

Actually, that's nothing compared to the stuff landing on alt.education.distance right now. But that discussion belongs in the "Saint Regis implodes" thread.

So, I ask you, what might have happened out west a couple of weeks ago to engender all this Bad Craziness? I do like the idea of a break in the ranks of the Regis v Lorhan et al. defendants, but I haven't any information about something juicy like that.

I note that at the bottom of that page
Does that mean JMIU is in no way connected to the James Monroe University of Liberia?

    James Monroe Confusing University???

The FAQ page of James Monroe University at http://www.jamesmonroeuniversity.ac/schools/jmu_faq.htm says that
The same way, the address as shown on the above page (FAQ Page) is:

A single page is having three University names: 1) Monroe University, 2) James Monroe University and 3) James Monroe International University.

The fine print in the bottom of the same page says:

But the Accreditation page at http://www.jamesmonroeuniversity.ac/accreditation.htm has nothing about Liberia and states a REAL approval from FAKE Country and a FAKE approval from a REAL Country.

Even the Contact page at http://www.jamesmonroeuniversity.ac/contact.htm says a Business Center address and two FREE FAX/PHONE numbers.

I think that the St Regis group is still unable to make out whether the Monroe or James Monroe or James Monroe International University is still in LIBERIA or SEBORGA(!?) or in INDIA.

But I think there is one advantage to the students(!?) or Customers of this university...that is... they will get 3 degrees(Monroe U degree, James Monroe U degree and James Monroe International U degree) at one price

    OR

atleast their University has three names....they can proudly ask other collegues and friends whether has your University got three names???

If I recall correctly, there is this strange little thing at colleges and universities called "academic freedom", which allows professors (Like Dr. Gollin) to engage in research and even disseminate that research. The fact that I can go to Dr. Gollin's web site and access his work on degree mills seems to indicate that the efforts to impede upon his academic freedom were ultimately unsuccessful.

In addition, the bilge posted elsewhere shows that the UIUC page under discussion has wide readership! An odd thing, though: there's not much to it besides links to other pages of resources and published news stories. However, its existence is used as an excuse for an impressive amount of mean craziness by friends of the goatbag industry.
