  1. is getting microsoft office certified worth it if you are not trying to get a job as a clerk or secretary? Someone recommended it to me because almost every job today uses office.

No. If you know how to use Office, just say so. No one will doubt it. It's not brain surgery.

MOS/MCAS certification could prove beneficial when seeking help desk jobs, IT support work, or even certain teaching positions. One of my acquaintances holds MOS Master certification, and claims it was a deciding factor in landing her adjunct teaching gig at a CC.

It is a good certification to have if you want to teach it. As a user, unless you would want to work as a help desk specialist I don't see the need for it.

If you sign up with a temp employment agency (like Manpower), or sometimes even your state's employment office, they will put you through some tests on Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc, and give you are rating like Expert user, Advanced user, Basic user, and so forth. They will also give you a typing test.

Those tests are free and should be sufficient enough to put on a resume to prove to a potential employer your skills.
