thats what it says on their website. All COSC degree are General Studies degrees. Its mentioned on their website. I dont work for COSC so cant be sure. I take whats on their website and what I received in email from them. Why do they say all COSC degrees are General studies degrees and they also say there would be no mention of major on the diploma. Is it to scare students away ?This was the only reason I did not go with COSC otherwise COSC is way better than other big 3 in terms of dealing with them

Did you read the thread Randell linked to? This is a road we have been down before. :)

yes I checked it out. I just wanted to bring up this matter for ITChick. This is what COSC is saying about their own degrees, does not matter what its students or others are saying. they say no sorry its a general studies degree. If someone gets a different response from them, I would be happy to consider COSC myself.

ok I called COSC today to confirm and they confirm that the degree is General Studies degree with concentration in Information Systems or whatever you choose and that it will say on the diploma that the degree was General Studies degree. So Randell and others, can you give me some idea why is it so ? Why do they emphasize that it is a Gen Studies degree and that it will say so on the diploma.? I am not trying to beat the horse here, just want to have this clarified so if my understanding is incorrect I should register with COSC myself. You mentioned in your earlier post that if someone asks where does it say Gen Studies in your documents as it wont have that. COSC says it does. Does your diploma says Gen Studies ?

    Hi Etech

It would seem to me their are two possible answers

    1. COSC has changed their diplomas and transcripts in the last year.

    2. That the person you were talking to gave you what they thought the correct answer was, but hasn't actually looked at either document.

It would seem to me that the latter is more likely but either answer would make sense. Would be possible for you to call COSC back, let them know your friends diploma only shows the concentration, then ask if the current diplomas are the same or have changed. This way we would have the definitive answer you want.

talked with COSC just the other day. I was transferred from one advisor to another, and yet another and finally got a person who can answer my question. He too was not sure so had me hold for a few mins. Initially he informed me that all COSC degree have a major in General Studies and a concentration of choice and that the word Gen Studies is listed on the diploma. Later he put me on hold and came back with that the actual diploma does not have General Studies listed and the transcript only mentions the concentration. but still its a Gen Studies degree so the major would be Gen Studies. This is also mentioned by Lawrie on the website.

    Hi Etech

There was no disagreement over technically what the major is. So both the degree and the transcript list only the concentration and no mention of General Studies as per our previous conversation. If I list a General Studies degree the Transcript will make me out a liar. I would list it as BA or BS in whatever the concentration is. But, I can understand why you might disagree. My guess is at some point they will drop the General Studies part altogether.

The advisor said the diploma would only have Bachelor of Science listed and the transcript would have concentration mentioned and thats all. Diploma wont have anything other than Bachelor of Science. So where is the General studies in all this ? Why do they insist its a Gen Studies degree and that the major is Gen Studies. The concentration is not major I believe and it will still be a Gen Studies degree (thats what the college says so we will have go with that what they say) and not a Information Systems or IT degree. How would one write it is a different story and when queried upon by an employer for example what story they would get from COSC is another. This all confusion makes me a little nervous calling this an IT degree
    :(

    Hi

In the U.S. major and concentration are often interchangable. As you can tell from the other thread, I am stickler for accuracy, but in this one I would simply state the concentration. I wouldn't call it a major though.
