I just finished a paper for ACCS now being typed. I think it is a good one. It is on the Christology of John's Gospel. It deals with trinal relationships. It will be 80-100 pages long. Foreign words are transliterated into English and defined. I hope it is fairly and scholarly done. I wanted to share it with friends and any others interested.

I thought about just having the typist attach it to an email to about six of my friends who are regulars here. Perhaps that is the best thing to do.

Then it occured to me that someone here might know of a website that would consider posting it. ACCS said that would be OK. I've not ever done that. Perhaps the length would be a problem. I have contacted one such site but have not yet received a response.

If anyone has an idea , I would appreciate it.

BTW, This is NOT one of my theology posts.

    Bill,
I don't have any good advice to offer you on getting it online (unless me putting it on my team website would be acceptable. I think I could do that if you sent it to me in Microsoft Word format).

But I would love to have the chance to read the paper, and to have a copy of it, if possible.

Keep us informed and let me know.

  3. Bill,

Before posting it on the web, you may want to first contact a book publisher or one of the academic journals.

If it is published first on the net, you may hurt your chances of getting it published later.

Take a look at Sally Stuart's Christian Writers Market Guide.

    What is your "team website"?

    Thanks.

I'll look at Stuart's site. If it is put into a book then friends would have to buy it. I am a member of a society which publishes a journal, but the only 80+ page article that I know of appearing there was Grudem's discussion of "Headship" (kephale) meaning authority over.

BTW, This is not one of my theology posts. These I'm limiting to three weekly and will not make such until Saturaday...then I intend to implode:D

    Bill,
    www.teamtallinn.com

This is really just a website that the members of our mission team use for info, etc. We use it to display pictures, activities, accomplishments, etc for our kids and our work here, so that family, friends and supporters can keep up with us. It also has info about our location and stuff like that.

I could add a page that just listed your paper on it. Of course, if you are interested in getting it published then I would look into that first. Just let me know.

btw - I had been thinking about adding a new page that listed theological resources on it, so you would be helping me out, too.

The paper attempts from an evangelical and trinitarian perspective , through an application of the exegetical/theological disciplines, to counter , much focusing on John, eight commonly expressed arguments in patristic and modern literature for the eternality of the Son's generation by and functional subordination to the Father. The paper was done, instead of four shorter ones, for the ACCS class on John, and ACCS has OK'd web or book publication saying it is "mine." Hebrew and Greek terms are put into English , grammaticisms are defined, and I try to carry the prospective reader who may not be at graduate level intheology along in my thinking. But,it is certainly written at a graduate level and is comparable in that regard , as well as in length, to my ThM thesis on water baptism approved by the Western thesis committee now sold through TREN. . This paper concerns a topic I've spent at least two thinking about. Would such fit your team's doctrine and purpose?

  8. Bill,

As you know, some journals publish articles as a series. Or perhaps you could break it up into two or three articles?

I would suggest making a list of journals that might be interested. Send them a query, as you've posted here. Ask the editors for their input.

They will likely give you some good advice or at least steer you in the right direction.

Remember, editors crave good material. I'm sure yours will whet their appetites.

P.S. You might also run it past a well-published professor.

Hi Bill - I confess that I know nothing about your area of expertise but I am generally aware that there are many, many e-journals on the web, virtually in any imaginable area. Before you just dump a good article onto the net you might want to spend a few days researching the prospective sites that would "publish" your work on the internet. It's not the same as print publication (I know, I know, those "print snobs") but let's face it, a citation is a citation is a citation. In any case, good luck,
    Jack

    Bill,
I would encourage you to check on this avenue, if you are interested in publishing it at all.

Having said that, I am more than willing to put it on the site, if all you want is for your friends (and others) to access it for their own benefit. I would probably put it on a page that stated that I didn't write the things on the page and put them there for people to study as they see fit.

I'd love to have a copy but I certainly dont' have time for it right now. So if you were open to getting "long term" feedback, I could take it on as a project to be completed, oh, say, in the next five years...?

    Sound good?

    :D

    Bill,
I would also like to say that it sounds like a paper that I would like to read. I also see nothing in your description that would indicate any type of doctrinal difference. It addresses a problem in my denomination. (well, not a big controversy problem, but a practical problem). So I would have no problem posting it at out site.

I hope I can get a copy no matter what you do with it..:)

    Bill,

I develop and manage websites on a regular basis. One way in which to "handle" a large document such as this is to convert it into an Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) file which can be read online with the free Acrobat Reader program.

If you would like, I would be happy to convert the document to a .PDF file for you. The document could be easily uploaded to either a free website (such as Tripod or Geocities). Another option is that your Internet Service Provider (e.g. Earthlink, AOL, etc.) will likely provide you with free web space to host your own personal website.

    Bill,
Tony's suggestion is the best looking one (in my opinion). It would give you control over the site that had your paper, etc. Plus, I have no idea how to use adobe acrobat (except to read stuff).

I am a member of a Christian Church too and also would see the paper's content as not in conflict with the doctrinal expressions of that body. Because it is noncreedal the Christology of that "denomination" is poorly defined. The paper is in conflict with Greek Orthodoxy, a religion in Estonia, as that tradition much emphasizes the monarchia of the Father as Source of the Godhead ; this paper argues against that. By doing this the paper goes against the much established position which really became dogma at Nicaea in the fourth century.

You certainly will have access to reading the paper as that-making it freely available--is exactly my goal. I'm honored that you wish to read it.

I certainly enjoyed looking at your team website.

Thankyou for your offer and I'll get back to you.

BTW: This is NOT a theology post!

  20. What's the status?

    Hey Bill,

Have you found a home for your paper?

Have you considered presenting a version of it at an academic conference? That would be an experience, as you would likely get strong feedback from other scholars. If you're lucky ... OOps! I mean, fortunate. Then you could also be discovered by an editor or two.

    Just some thoughts.

BTW, I'd love to get a copy via email.

    Thanks.
