    Go for the MBA:
    + It can be verified.
+ It can be added to your resume
+ Most people have no idea what an ABD is (do you have all the units except for the dissertation?).
+ It will be accepted by academia (will an ABD?).
+ The MBA vs PhD route will save you money. (put the savings it in a tax paid 401K or Roth IRA).

I reread the original message. You are correct. I thought Randell was looking to convert to an MBA and use ABD. I stand corrected.

I would consider an ABD alone less credentialed than an MBA with an ABD. However, I would ask about it. In my case I did list ABD on my resume, but I also listed my estimated time to completion- which showed I was still in process.

Thanks for everyones responses. I don't like the class I am in now (everyone else has been great). I am also looking at a certificate program in the summer for the University of Florida. This will give me a school with a strong "name" on
    my resume.

The certificate is only 9 credits and the classes are offered in 8 week semesters. They also plan to make this a full degree program which has my interest.

The bottom line is that I cannot work on a PhD from NCU and an MS from UF. I guess I will decide when the time comes. I will go after (1) a PhD from an RA yet unknown school or (2) a masters from a school ranked #50 in the country by US News and World Report.

I guess UF looks better on a resume but a PhD opens doors that a masters can not open. I currently work as an Area Service Manager for a medical company so I have a great career. The additional education is to open other doors - such as teaching.

If I wanted to teach at a B&M school, I am sure the UF degree would look better. Sorry for the rambling and thanks for the words of encouragement.

    Randell,

Which would have more academic and business utility: a business certificate from a state university (FSU) or a business PhD from a no-name school (NCU)? The unequovical answer is the RA doctorate. ;) Being a graduate from a big name school is really no big deal, unless it's Ivy league, which FSU is not, IMO.

PM me for some scoop. ;)

I am looking at UF not FSU. Making a mistake like that in the Tampa Bay area could get someone dead ;)
