I have not taken GRE, but I might need to take it since it is required by the school I'm interested to enroll. Admission requirement is 850 GRE or 392 MAT (Miller Analogies Test). If MAT scores are between 200-600, a 392 is about 65%. GRE scores are 400-900 making 850 in the 95%. Is this correct? I'm confused!
No, the general GRE consists of the following scores: Verbal Reasoning score reported on a 200-800 score scale, in 10-point increments Quantitative Reasoning score reported on a 200-800 score scale, in 10-point increments Analytical Writing score reported on a 0-6 score scale, in half-point increments http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.1488512ecfd5b8849a77b13bc3921509/?vgnextoid=ebd42d3631df4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD&vgnextchannel=54c846f1674f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD
Oh okay. I re-read the score requirement and it says 850 (Verbal & Quantitative). So to make 850 it is combined score from both, right? Make sense now.
That is correct. 850 is not hard to get. If your school doesn't use the Analytical writing section, you can skip it and save yourself a couple of hours.
I just took the GRE a couple of weeks ago and can confirm that an 850 should not cause you the least bit of stress. I had to have over a 1300 and that, for me, took some studying. As long as you know what the question types look like (so you don't waste precious time reading instructions), you should be able to just walk in and hit the 850. To put it into perspective, a score of 500 in quantitative is about 28th percentile while a 500 in verbal is about 61st percentile. You can find a good (and free) study guide from the test developer at www.ets.org. -RLD

I think I will study hard and give it a shot too. In addition to the links provided, are there any additional study materials that would be useful ? There is so much on the web to choose from some free and some costly.
