HELP - our college, Mohave Community College (MCC), has a new college president, Tom C. Henry. Prior to Tom Henry coming to MCC, he was president of Azaliah University (formerly Eastern American Univ) in New Mexico.

We are a community college in Arizona (nortwest corner of the state). However, since Tom Henry became the college president, he has elminated almost all faculty. We are down to 31 full-time resident faculty as of May 14, 2004. This 31 faculty is divided between 4 campuses.

He has also elminated programs. In the fall, computer and business courses will ONLY be offered online. This is very disturbing since only 30% residents in our community have computers. Many students do not want online courses.

He is also pushing truck driving school and signed a contract with Sage Technical Services. We think Tom Henry used this service before when he worked in the state education system of Wyoming.

The first semester Tom Henry arrived, he fired all administrators and brought his own group with him. Some of these indviduals are:

    William (Bill) Lovejoy, VP Financing
    Bruce Snyder, VP Education
    Donald Puyer, VP Student Services
    Dan Warfield, VP Marketing
Diane Stithem, Interim VP Dist. Education (never worked in online edu before)
Connie Kudra, Interim HR Director (never worked in HR before)

If you can share any information regarding this or if you can answer any of the questions listed below, please contact me or add this this forum:

    - How long was Henry at Azaliah
    - Why did Tom Henry and Bill Lovejoy resign in Oct. 2000 from the Wyoming Community College Commission
    - When did Azaliah close? And, for what reasons?
    - Why did Henry go leave WY to go to Azaliah
    - Do you know any of the other individuals listed?

I look forward to learning more (thank you John B. for talking with me earlier).

This is awful. I know very little about Azaliah, but more power to you and welcome to the board. I am sure many will be able to help. Go get 'em.

Do a search for Azaliah by clicking on the search button at the top. Azaliah was presumably a South African College that obtained American DETC accreditation. Our resident South African always said that Azaliah was not a South African school without explaining although it certainly offered programs in South Africa.

Azaliah then took over Eastern American University, an unaccredited school of doubtful reputation. Eastern American then started using the Azaliah name and was granted its accreditation.

Almost immediately, for some unknown reason, it lost its accreditation. I believe this took place in 2002. More questions than answers. If you do the search , maybe there are a few more answers.

Are all the new people qualified considering, it was an unaccredited school.

Search for more ancient history on Eastern American here and at:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&group=alt.education.distance

If people use unflattering terms for schools, it may not be in your best interest to use them. Stick with the facts.

    Thanks for feedback so far

I really appreciated the feedback so far! Still not having luck finding information on Tom Henry or why he left the Wyoming Community College Commission to go to a place as reputable as Azaliah and then to end up with us at Mohave Community College.
