Apologies if I have double posted. I thought I posted a wordy post re Mr. Dicken. I realized I misspelled his name but, I could not find the post to edit. I lifted the 'Hands Steadied by God' line from a Freeper. Anyway, I'm impressed. With my favorite pistol, under the best range conditions, and no pressure like an active shooter with a rifle, it's a rare day that I can hit my paper target from a forty yard distance. One takes on an incredible responsibility carrying a weapon. To actually engage a bad guy is amazing. To stop an active shooter with out bystander injuries is miraculous. https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/19/us/eli-dicken-indiana-mall-shooting-bystander/index.html
One of the EXTREMELY rare cases where a good guy with a gun actually stops a bad guy with a gun. Too bad there was no good guys with a gun at Uvalde, only many dozens of police personal in protective vests and bullet shields.
It's not that rare. The overwhelming uses of guns do not result in shots being fire, but with them instead being used as a deterrent.
Here's the NY Times analysis. Out of 433 active shooter incidents they studied, a good guy with a gun stopped the bad guy 22 times. Of those 22 times, 10 were either security guards or off duty cops. So it would seem to happen 12 times a plain citizen stopped the bad guy out of 433 incidents. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/06/22/us/shootings-police-response-uvalde-buffalo.html Although I do admit that the cops eventually did stop the Uvalde shooter. Unfortunately it was after who knows how many bleed out waiting for rescue.
Okay, I didn't interpret what you initially said as being specific to active shooter situations. Thanks for clarifying.
