I read about the political instability of Haiti, but didn't know it was that bad. There are always two sides of the story, some people think he was wanting to change the constitution of the country to become more authoritarian or a dictatorship under his rule. Yet others think the current state of having two "parties" doesn't help streamline the government as the President may bump-heads with the Prime Minister. It's a mess, hopefully they can get through this peacefully, please stop the violence! Wiki is already updated! Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jovenel_Mo%C3%AFse

They already haven't. Whoever is in charge, or thinks he's in charge, just asked for U.S. troops. Oh man, no no nonono! Just what we need, to be occupying Haiti yet again. President Biden says he's sending some civilian "advisors". Where have I heard that before?

Hard to imagine how Haiti will ever get out of their downward spiral. Also hard to imagine the tragedy, of where they would be if it weren’t from their original debt ransom and exclusion from trade.

This thing looks worse by the minute. Haiti is the dystopian future of countries with severe inequalities of wealth distribution. An extreme example to be sure but the basic conflicts are there in any society. I hope we don't send in the Marines yet again but I'll bet we do eventually. Maybe under UN auspices as has been our fig leaf in the recent past but U.S. Marines nevertheless. I don't think anyone knows who is behind the killing or, more importantly, who paid for it. The assassination was a success as far as it went but the complete lack of an end game makes the whole thing look amateurish. Smells like CIA from the Old Days. I hope not,

What need? He had plenty of enemies right there at home. And U.S. policymakers couldn't care less about people in other countries suffering under dictatorships so long as those regimes support U.S. interests.

But I don't think this guy did. He appears to have served only his own interests and the country's elites didn't like that. Well, we shall see.

He really was a nasty piece of work. There remain just 10 Senators because the rest of the Haitian Senate's terms expired and the deceased refused to permit elections. OTOH, the Haitian Senate was nothing but the device that the Haitian wealthy used to dominate the country to the dear cost of everybody else. There really aren't any good guys here.
